Hi All,Hope people on this forum can help with this question. What are the level of expenses covered by capgemini when travelling within europe and uk. Knowing that client location will be my home during the week it would be nice to know what food allowance you get, flight class and hotels you stay at. Are we able to also collect air miles and points throught this process.any advice would be appreciated.cheersanon

Cap Gemini do not pay travel, accommodation or food expenses whilst working away from home; you will be expected to cover these.HTH

What rubbish - what kind of firm would expect you to work away from home and not pay your expenses? Basically, when you join you have to choose a base location from one of our ~15 UK offices. You'll then have to subtract the cost of travel from home to base location from any travel expenses incurred while travelling to your client site. You will also be allowed 30GBP per day for dinner and 15GBP per day for breakfast, as well as smaller amounts for buying coffee etc at client sites where it is not available for free. Yes you can collect AirMiles in this process. I would particularly recommend the AirMiles credit card from Lloyds TSB for this purpose.I'd also like to say that many of these allowances are limited by UK tax regulations. Apparently, any allowance of more than GBP30 per day for dinner would be construed as a taxable benefit, for example. Hence this allowance is unlikely to be exceeded by our competitors. Having said that, all firms in this industry have a focus on making life away from home as painless as possible, so I'd suggest that this should not be a factor in your choice of where to start your career.Whatever you decide, best of luck.

Having worked at CG and then gone onto a Big 4, may I say CG gives a more enjoyable expense policy, and team events and dinners are comparatively more lush (provided you hang out with the right managers)

CG'er,CG are a bit stingy it would seem on mileage. R&C guidelines are very clear, if a business journey is significantly different to to your normal commute, then you can claim expenses, i.e. you do not have to subtract your normal commute. I then confirmed this with my own company who agreed (and they are tight on expenses). You would therefore be entitled to at least claim the tax relief on this shortfall in expenses from R&C. (Caveat, I investigated this a couple of years ago, but company still agree with my interpretation so I assuse rules remain unchanged)

To the last anon, I don't drive, so can't comment on CG's mileage policy. My normal commute cost is £1 for the bus, although at a stretch I could probably walk to the office - so I never even bother subtracting that, although officially I should. To the OP on your last question, it's always been economy for short-haul flights, and used to be business class for long-haul. Unfortunately this was extensively abused, and now you can only travel business class if the expenses are chargeable. Having said that, in my experience you are asked rather than told, about working outside the UK. Train travel (incl. Eurostar) is always 2nd class.Hotels both in the UK and abroad are usually pretty good.
