All, I have been approached to work within BT GS on a major government project. This would be for a senior position (with a large team reporting in to me), as a contractor. A potential political nightmare?

Don't know if this helps...

...but there are some advantages in being a contracting lead, namely that you can make decisions for objective reasons and you are not tied into internal politics, although these shouldn't be significant in this type of role anyway. Are you concerns mainly aboout the contractural/reporting arrangments, BT GS, or the nature of the government project. If the last then I can understand how you could easily be the 'fall guy' if the project doesn't make it's deliverables ie you might not get the levell of protection a consultancy would give to an internal lead. But this is very much down to the management of the consultancy, and I don't know where BT GS fits in here - I thought they were very much about technology convergence, but admit this is probably a narrow view - does this project play to their core strengths, in which case yoou may be ok, of is it more 'green field' for them, hence the need to bring you in?
