I'm trying not to laugh for two reasons, but you have left me no choice! 1. I am surprised that you even want to go and work for such an establishment. Are you serious that you want to work for a bunch of incompetent airheads? I'm sure you are valued more, or not given that you want to work for them. 2. £70k. For what? Doubt in this climate that you will even get that. I've said this before upteem times, Industry do not see their ROI from using Consultancies and prefer not to use them. So where do you think your £70k, every year, going to be achieved?

"what would the salary be for a Senior or Principle Consultant.I want 70K - feasible? "You can't even spell 'Principal' - why on earth would they pay you £7K let alone £70K?

After the fecent debacle, and assuming this isn't the end of PA, I'll emmigrate if they let them near Defence - to somewhere safer like downtown Kabul.

That's funny Mars, whilst we're at it lets stop HMRC going anywhere near taxation, the DVLA going anywhere near motorists, the Navy & MoD going anywhere near defence and national security or the NHS having anything to do with patients! I am overwhelmed by the number of idiotic remarks from people in relation to this subject?!!Nov 2007: 25m people's child benefit details, held on two discsDec 2007: 7,685 Northern Ireland drivers' detailsDec 2007: 3m learner drivers' details lost in USJan 2008: 600,000 people's details lost on Navy officer's stolen laptopJune 2008: Six laptops holding 20,000 patients' details stolen from hospitalJuly 2008: MoD reveals 658 laptops stolen in four yearsWhy don't people get a bit of perspective about this and remember that if this goes bad for PA due to a complete knee jerk over reaction then large numbers of people could lose their jobs!

IDWFPAB, Isn't the reason most people are enjoying this because (some) PA staff encapsulate the 'up their own backsides' reputation consultancy can do without.Unfortuately not all PA people are that nice - they even have a retired General on their Board who was a well known bully during his time in the Army - why would you want someone like that representing you, and are you surprised when people poke fun when you get it wrong?

I don't work for PA either, but the previous poster clearly does not work in consulting. The 'up their own backsides' is about the opposite of the PA image (a striking contrast with that other big supplier of consulting services to government, McKinsey). If anything PA's got a very dowdy reputation. More to the point is that EDS, Accenture et al. (plus all those rejected by PA at interview) are taking every opportunity to stick the knife in whilst someone else is in the news.In addition, positions such as that held by Mike Jackson have nothing to do with the day-to-day management of an organisation - the sole reason they exist is to use their connections to get the firm appointments with decision-makers.As IDWFPAB suggests, let's keep things in proportion - left to their own devices, the Home Office ("not fit for purpose", remember) would have fluffed the job up even more spectacularly before even to getting to this point in the project.Back to the original question - £70k would be towards the top of the Principal Consultant range.

"Industry do not see their ROI from using Consultancies and prefer not to use them"Have you had your head in the sand for the last 10 years? Indeed, 50 years? £70k achievable for the right person certainly, particularly if they have indicated that you would be perfect for a certain assignment then you're in a strong position.

Wrong again -Senior Manager, large consultancy - and never even applied to PA, why would you?!Glad you recognise Mike Jackson's character though, which, er, kind of supports my point about 'not all nice people'...Agree with you on the £70k though, not much else.

Hello Jon got a new motor?

All consultants are up their own backsides. They have to be - its their job. They could never do what they do if they had their eyes open.PAers are up their own backsides as much as the next consultancy. Things grate when the upbacksidedness gets further and further away from reality. MBBBers are w@nkers, but at least they can back some of it up.One of the reason PA gets such stick on this site is that they smugly profess high and ethical ideals, and flash the bonuses and being employee-owned. As has been debated on many other chains on this site, the bonus scheme is a lie and a sham. Unless you've been a partner since the early 90s, your shares are worth jack. And ethics are completely out of the window - no corporate governance, nasty blame culture (who got sacked?). None of this is different to anywhere else - but PA pretends to be different. When the difference isn't delivered, people get bitter. PA could be so much better and it is very disasppointing that it is not.

blame me
16.09.8 00:00

You must have worked there to have such strong views, you must be a consultant up your own backside like everyone else!PA has no governance? Nah, just an ERP system that tracks every penny, an army of administrators enforcing the countless procedures and committee after committee on any topic you can think of. Too much governance, not enough doing for me. Too low risk at the moment, that's why I laughed at the "blame culture" comment as people rarely do anything even potentially worthy of blame! Bonuses? I always had good scores and was always happy. The move away from shares to cash is good, as you say the shares are only worthwhile if you're there a long time.

I agree 70k is probably the upper end of the PC range, but if you have something compelling it should be relatively easy to attain.

Given the pressure PA is under in the public sector, I think you can kiss off any bonus for the next few years
