Does anyone know much about ACG for grads...what work they get involved in?...would you have the opportunity to work in CRM, FS etc. as a grad or jsut be put into IT work??thanks for any advice

Impossible question to answer: the whole point about joining this wider "group" is that it is a pool that is used to whatever comes up. It will be down to lady luck.

Is it just me that finds it perplexing the number of graduates who join what is essentially an IT company when they clearly have no interest in it?Seems like Accenture recruiting are pulling the wool over the eyes of a lot of new hires, with all the "you'll be talking to CEOs" bollox.Simple fact: 90% of the work Accenture does is IT, and most of it not particularly exciting IT. If you don't want to do IT, don't join an IT company.

I'm in the ACG. It basically means you can work across industry groups and within different specialisations rather than being pigeon holed too early.That might be some CRM work, F&PM, SI&T, SAP or something else.It is to some extent a bit of a lottery whether you end up doing IT work. The majority of Acn's work is IT focused but you can avoid it. I have avoided it and I've been doing supply chain management for the last couple of years.

I can probably answer for him that it was a combination of networking, persuading HR and luck.The role is floating, you can go anywhere as people have said. If your preference is supply chain apply to that area specifically, not a floating role.

It was basically luck.I had been doing some T&OP kind of work (change management etc.) and they needed someone to do the same sort of stuff at my client when I was available in a supply chain project.I'm not alligned to supply chain, just working in that area. However, getting experience in an area is important to being alligned to it when you become a consultant.

Puzzled makes a fair point. However I wouldn't blame Accenture recruitment. It is made clear that the work involves IT. A candidate's understanding of this is also checked at interview. Some people will always seek to confuse things and claim they ended up in an IT role when they were supposed to be in strategy. The reality is that they did not have the skills / background to be hired into strategy at Accenture (or for that matter anywhere else).Most (although sadly not all) will find their roles rewarding and learn something useful.
