I'm wondering on the quality differences between consultants who work for the same firm in different offices ( different countries).I take it that MBBB consultants are as good in any location they operate ( consistent quality irrespective of location). But , I have seen very significant differences in consultant quality in ACN , EDS, and IBM . For instance, ACN consultants in America are quite good. ACN consultants in , say, Australia or New Zealand are very below par compared to their american and western european colleagues.Has anyone else noticed differences in quality like this...?

Yes, although I'd refer to the differences I've seen as "qualitative". I work for a mid-sized global consultancy and it's always fascinating how even within the same line of business there are big differences in offices around the world.I'm sure that the consultants in each office deliver work to the same "quality" relative to local client expectations. I am also pretty sure that they are of similar quality (e.g. 90th percentile plus) in terms of education, experience and intellect, when compared to the regionally available talent pools. However, when we bring staff from different offices together for international projects or for conferences, the differences are very noticeable. There seem to be three things behind this:* How the firm is marketed locally and the recruitment messages given out vary widely* There are some areas of work that are sold in some regions and not at all in others* Training and career progression expectations widely differI think this is more noticeable for some firms than others. Those that have a global staffing model (e.g. MBB) have built in standardisation as they recruit from a pool of "global citizens" and mix them up regularly. I'm a bit surprised that ACN and similar have wide differences in consultant quality, but I suppose they are like McDonalds in the way they customise a global image to local market tastes. Firms like my own which have a fairly relaxed culture and control system and have grown by acquisition have yet another set of issues with standardisation.
