Ok - please don't shout at me for this...I know it is relatively subjective. But from your experiences there can be some basis of fact behind your selections……I am a graduate starting in strategy MC this September and am trying to get a view of which companies hold the strongest brand i.e. which I would define are the firms which would give the greatest exit options...Therefore, to get a rough indication, could you state what you believe to be the top ten firms for strategy consulting to be for the UK?I assume at the moment it would begin:(1) -> (4) MBBB(5) ?(6) ?(7) ?(8) ?(9) ?(10) ?Out of personal interest, I am also interested to know mostly where you would place each of the Big4, ATK or PA Consulting...if at all, within the top10.Look forward to seeing what you think!

wow - you are going to get a lot of abuse for this post! Aside from the subjectivity it does of course depend on what you are looking to do and your interests i.e. one may dominate in operations and undeperform in strat. Anyway, of the other ones you listed only ATK would be a solid top 10 firm. PA and Big 4 are not in there - in my opinion

I can hear the abuse building behind me already ‘wowzers’...I was thinking only of strategy - but how about a **strategy rankings list** and then an **operations rankings list**Excellent, I am sure you will all participate in this?! I know this post may annoy some of you as it is based on veyr little ''fact'' but as a graduate coming into the industry it would great to have a rough guide of the firms which are best regarded for their different service-lines i.e. strategy or operations! Many Thanks in advance…

just checked out the rankings:http://www.vault.com/nr/consulting_rankings/consulting_rankings.jsp?consulting2008=2&ch_id=252 Was very surprised that Deloitte is no.6, outranking ATK, Roland Berger, LEK...None of the other big four are in there at all. Why are they so high?

Clearly an American list and that is probably the reason for Deloitte being higher as it seems to have a higher profile there. Deloitte was the only one on the Big 4 to keep a full consulting business and that's probably the main reason for it being there and the others not.

Good point Toilette. Turns out there's a European version too which I hadn't spotted before:http://europe.vault.com/nr/consulting_rankings/euro-consulting-rankings.jsp?euroconsult2008=2&ch_id=252

Interesting list but seems to be prestige from a consulting point of view rather than from a UK market point of view. If we polled outside the industry I'd expect to see KPMG, PwC, EY on here as well as if you speak to clients, these are globally prestigious firms - possibly more so than MBBB who are less well known outside the boardroom and the industry - regardless of what we in the industry may think about their Advisory practices. Thoughts?

Yes, it does reflect consultants' perception of prestige....but I also think industry perceptions are moving more in that direction. 5 years ago, in Financial Services (where I work), KPMG, PWC etc would have been just as good as "McKinseys" if you were going for a general management role; and maybe better than smaller strategy firms. But I think a lot of FS corporates understand the distinction now & look for top-tier strategists (HBOS seems to hire loads of people from BCG, for example)
