Hi I need help if someone can identify any consulting firms recruiting people from industry. I have NHS (Porject Manager) experience and looking to enter into consultancy sector. I have almost lost my hope becuase all recuiters and companies prefer people with consulting experience. I personally find it really difficult to get a break through. If you know any organisation who encourage people from industry then please let me know. I will appreciate all suggestions equally.thanks

Not true A Rehman.I come from industry and had already 2 interviews (KPMG, Atos) plus I have one plan with Mckenzie.I think it depends on how well written is your CV and if your background is interesting for the firm.Good luck

As Mover mentioned, could be your CV? Perhaps you are applying for a position higher than what they are expecting for someone of your background? Most consultancies that I have visited DO prefer people from industry, but it is a very competitive environment which you have prove to them why they should recruit you over someone else, for example. Perhaps you need to forget Consulting as either you are not calibre they require (period) or that you need to work on something substantial to prove your worth. I hope you consider the latter and reapply in a few years time.

Thanks MoverI really appreciate your reply; I have started applying for the last 3 months very actively and so far have got calls from 2 firms. First one was Hitachi Consulting, where cleared first 2 rounds successfully and was eliminated in the last round which was very unusual. There were no technical questions.... simple straight forward like how would you travel, salary expectations and why Hitachi. It was hardly 30 mins and then I got a call that other candidates were more experienced therefore they didn't select me. I thought that skills and experiences are judged in the first 2 rounds specially 2nd round. This process took more than 2 months and really disheartens me. I have given another interview in other place and they are so slow it takes them ages to make a decision. When I checked yesterday what’s happening with the outcome they said it will take few more weeks.One more thing I would like to ask that is: do you approach employers directly or through recruiters. Which one works best for you?Thanks

It depends who you want to approach.MBB don't use agencies so you have to apply through their website.I have an interview with Mckenzie: I am still surprised they considered my application since I don't have an MBA from a top business school. My only explanation is that they liked my CV and industry background.I had 2 interviews in 3 weeks and both through interviews and one was with KPMG which is not exactly the last kid in the block.I don't know how your CV is but it should be written in 3rd person and no longer than 2 pages.Anyway 3 months is way too long as a process.In my case things are getting quite fast and I have 2nd and final round within 10 days from the 1st interviewGood luck and don't give up as Churchill used to say....never never never never give up

Thanks MoverThat was really encouraging, now I feel that I need to work on my CV which is 3 pages and I need to do it make it in 3rd person. Hopefully you do well in your interviews, I would really like to know about the outcome and how it went. Wish you best of luck
