Lump, there are several segments in the expensive watch space (check out my consultant approach). Some are more or less just brands (like Rolex). So you buy them to signal that you've got some money (and that you don't really give a damn about watches). Some are more or less just bling (so you buy them because you like bling). And then there are watches that have history, tradition, mechanical innovation and perfection (some would say Rolex fits into here as well). As a miss, noone expects you to be a watch expert. You probably just want to signal out that you have got money, taste and culture. And you want to do it in a subtle way (coz you don't like rolex cartier). Unless you really appreciate watchmaking, don't spend that much money on a watch. Women's watches come and go into fashion very easily and you will end up with something you find boring and that has depreciated immensely (almost no resale value).Buy a £500-1000 fashionable watch and wear it 3-5 years. If you are really into watches, you can find incredible bargains on old womens watches on ebay. Search for Vacheron Constantin, Patek and likes. Hand wound movements last long and don't need expensive servicing frequently (unlike the current self-winding movements). Perhaps a new / trendy strap replacement and you will be good to go. It is a cool hobby too.
