You are a silly boy. VC is not an industry. It is a small group of people that hire once every blue moon and only hire people they know. You have better chances of becoming an astronaut.

@a: It depends on how you define Venture Vapital. In the broad sense, it includes PE. Now they hire two people per blue moon!@Anon: Seriously, if you work for MBB, you simply should ask for Venture Capital cases... test the waters before you make a move.

This is a hard one to call, but I think the pay is comparable to PE, and SIV, CDO type work. The work tends to be quite quanty so analtyical rigour and numerical acumen is sought after. The pay packets tens to reflect market dynamics and supply consolidation, but in the main tend to be above average. Starting packages tend to follow structured paths with incremental increases based largely on performance and deal development and conception.Zbigniew Brzezinski

Why the hell am I getting stick for simply providing insightful and pertinent information around an industry which isn't well known?Contrary to popular belief, I am providing relevant value-adding information. Or does the forum want to discuss real important and career defining stuff like "where shall I take my date on a night out" or "which firm has the sexiest women" or "what is my favourite colour"I'm not English, but from the quality of the forum you have here I would hazard a guess that I would probably find more thought-provoking comment coming from stale horse manure. Are all English people (and I am making a generalisation here that most of the idiots on this forum are English) stupid, obsessed with non-sensical crap and plain daft. I have never heard such rubbish coming from a fraternity of supposedly intelligent people. and when I try and instil some quality debate here, all that happens is that I get lambasted.Zbigniew Brzezinski

ZB, you're so cocky. "Starting packages tend to follow structured paths with incremental increases based largely on performance and deal development and conception."Tell me where's the added value here.. Now, cross out all adjectives and fluffy stuff.ZB, please tell us - which company is crazy enough to employ you?

We most certainly are not only interested in non-sensical crap. How very dare you. Someone should sue. A clients favourite colour can be crucial to securing a deal. I'm currently working with a guy who likes green. (Chicks here are approx 7/10 on looks)

Reverting to the original subject for a moment, at Analyst level VC/PE firms tend to align themselves to the major IBs, as most (by no means all though) Analysts in VC/PE will come from Y2/Y3 Analyst level - or potentially Y1 Associate. Somewhere in the region of 35 - 50K depending on the firm - it is less structured than MC, as PE firms don't tend to benchmark each other much, so it's mainly IB which is the benchmark. Just ask for something competitive with what you are getting now and you should be ok.

I'm not sure what Mars' trade is, but I agree broadly with his assessment. What I would like to point out that pay and overall earnings tend to be volatile and susceptble to market swinging gyrations to a greater degree than convential consultative assignments. The work tends to be more transactional with greater focus on entrepreneurial instincts and blue-sky thought leadship. This means whilst pickings tends to be very high, the sinusoidal nature of the work can have actute affects on longevity and career structure. It's a difficult field to be established, whilst in times of market contraction and credit uncertainty, the much-prized vehicle for investment growth 'capital' is hard to obtain thus impinging on long-term profitability and revenue aggregation. Just to clarify my own post - as the post from ZB seems to be looking at the same question from a different angle, I am assuming you mean salary for an MC moving into VC at Analyst level to actually work on transactions, rather than as a consultant on invested companies?
