Given the New Year I wondered what people's thoughts are on the top 10 global consulting firms, in terms of prestige, for 2008.I’ll give it a go and look forward to the abuse – just my opinions and am sure I may have left a deserving firm out or unfairly grouped some. Interested in people’s thoughts.1. McKinsey: still dominant!2. BCG: the top three remain unchanged3. Bain4. Booz Allen: maybe lower with what’s happening?5. Mercer: including MOW I think Mercer should be right up there6. Monitor7. AT Kearney: going well post MBO with a good few years of results now8. Roland Berger: not sure if this is too European?9. OC&C10. LEK: would have said Marakon/Trinsum but they appear to be struggling

Rank subjectivity, a total lack of intellectual honesty. Why not produce a list of your top ten favourite pieces of string?

oc and c? no way- not enough marketing /brand awareness to warrant a top 10 place. Also, yhou are right about roland berger; whilst these guys are good, they are too focussed on europe and therefore, should not be in the top 10.Booz(e) is infact at #4; their rep is very good and is considered an A-list firm even by their competitors.

Top ten sandwich fillings1. Roast beef, medium rare. Touch of horseradish 2. BLT3. Tuna, sweetcorn and mayo4. Parma ham, mozzarella, basil and tomato5. Crayfish. Controversial I know, but I guess that's the point of the forum6. Prawn cocktail7. Smoked salmon8. Ham and pickle9. Breakfast sarnie10. Roasted vegetable tart. (A favourite of man united footballers) I’ll give it a go and look forward to the abuse – just my opinions and am sure I may have left a deserving sandwich out or unfairly grouped some. Interested in people’s thoughts.

ginster - how did the 'crisp sandwich' not make it into the top 10??It might not be available 'ready-made' in shops, but as far as home sandwich making goes it should be up there - clearly not enough brand awareness/marketing going on for the crisp sandwich, maybe that's why it wasn't there :p

Jstone, you raise a valid point regarding crisp sandwiches. They should be in there somewhere, but what are your thoughts on the chip butty?I also noted that I failed to include any chicken based sandwich. I assure you there was no fowl play involved.

help?
03.01.8 00:00

er...probably shouldn't be asking for help based on the banter the first poster received but...I’m quite interested in this as I’ve heard about the first two but none of the others and would like to know which firms are held in high regard before applying? I'm new to this area so apologies in advanceI’m sure it is subjective but in the same way some Universities are held in high regard is this also true of consultancies? Is there an informal ranking you hold?Favourite sandwich is chicken and bacon

You should always be able to come to this forum for help, just ignore the banter above. Despite what people say there is a perceived ranking, as there is in most things in life. You should care as it can impact upon your career although prestige is NOT the be all and end all and shouldn’t be the sole reason for a firm’s selection. The vault publish a book every so often which rates the top 50 consulting firms, might want to check it out on Amazon US (amazon.com).

I have to agree with medium-rare roast beef in top spot. Have you tried M&S? Plenty of beef, nice horseradish and in white bread all for only £2.50 (£2.80 in a 'local'). Finally, a post that has relevance past the subjectivity of ranking firms according to which you think is the best perceived!

Brie and Apple. Yeah that's right, I'm throwing it out there and letting intelligent people make up their own minds on the sweet/savoury cross. A taste sensation? Could be chums, it could be.
