Being a high flying consultant who pulls in many hundreds of pounds a day, don't you think it's a bit unethical taking the £60 p/w?

Yes my friend the firm pulls in many hundred pounds a day I was merely a grad, a spec in the pool of life who is now broke. It is not something I relished doing but it had to be done.

"don't you think it's a bit unethical taking the £60 p/w"Is it ethical to never work and claim the dole? Surely having earnt a large amount of money at somepoint in the UK and contributed a fair amount of tax it seems perfectly ethical to me.

Let me rephrase that. If you had been bringing home £500 per day, say, for the last 6 months, didn't have obcene levels of outgoings and had another contract set up for 6 weeks time; wouldn't it be a bit unethical taking the £60?

Claim as much as you can. In the same way the taxman doesn't let you off on paying taxes because it is coming up to Christmas or whatever why should you not claim the dole if you are unemployed?

I feel like sh@t for actually doing it, but its my last resort and only for a few weeks as i'm off to far away places (which I have a job interview in) it is the first time this has happened to me and its a real kick in the teeth. Now I do feel like i'm perfectly within my right as a tax paying citizen to claim government support in a low point in my career.

I used to love "claim-day". Waiting outside the Job Centre, singing doleday songs with all the council estate people. You can even wear slippers and PJs; you'll fit right in.One would think I'm being sarcastic, but I actually did love it.

So if a young medic qualifies as a doctor at vast cost (to him/her and others including taxpayers) and is unable to get a job (through no fault that you can pin on the medic) they should then take any job offered.Isnt that very stupid and short-termist? Here's a job as a dustman doc....take it with all the advantages that it offers or leave it and face judge dread (aka this government!)
