Hi would anyone know who are the biggest players in the enerrgy market. I don't mean companies that work on IT/marketing within the sector, but rather those that work within the profit-centre parts of the business.Doesn't appear that many energy companies use business consultants but rather functional specialists like SI delivery or technical support. Or have I got it wrong?Oiler

Bain are currently assisting BPs new CEO in simplifying its Org Structure. Mckinsey assist Shell in their Upstream. BCG/ BAH assist Shell in their Downstream. Banks/ some E&Y type people advise both on deals and project finance.Lower tier consultancies used for HR outsourcing and IT systems rollouts.Woodmackenzie are the dons for strategic/ benchmarking/ industry analysis - and work is commissioned heavily from them. Mott Macdonand are also a strng player due to engineering experience.Contractors are used extensivly to fill in engineering/ technical shortages

Thanks Gasser. Interesting stuff. Would you know if there is a strong market for energy related experience for consultancy?

Gasser's account is detailed, but incomplete.Schlumberger, Accenture, Deloitte et al are carrying out significant strat work both at NOCs and IOCs.

I think you may have mis-read the question Energy Cons. I agree with much of your list, but Accenture and energy?? Get real! All they do is SI in the energy industry. That, to me at least, is not strategy stuff, it IT functional work.ADL are goodBain not soo good: first hand exp at client siteOiler
