Even worse, when you have to wake up at 3.30 AM every Monday morning to catch the first flight out of HeathrowIts only been 3 months of week-in, week-out travelling but I get seriously depressed on Sunday evenings when I have to start thinking of Monday.

Tintin, Anon is right - you need to move on before it starts to affect your mental and/or physical health.

I hear this advice alot, but how many consultants actually have a regular 9-6 job?

It's not about 9 - 6 necessarily but about at least an attempt at work/life balance and not treating consultants like machines. More and more consultancy firms are trying to make it more workable, rotating people through projects etc, and perhaps you need to talk with your HR/Manager etc to see if you could move onto a more local project? Of course you could always look at industry.

Hey - Thanks for all your advice.I have thought about raising it with HR/Line Manager but I am worried it will hurt my growth if I am seen complaining about the travel - After all (and to be fair to them), thats the first question Consultancies ask you in their interviews - "Are you ok with the travel" , which we all say yes to. I also gave it a thought last night - And have come to the conclusion that its not the travelling, per se, but this particular project which is quite stressful (No Programme Office, No Risk Management, Blame the Consultant philospohy). The travelling and lack of Support (from the "Mothership", or friends and family), just adds to it. I think I will stick around till I can take it - If it starts to get too much, I will consider leaving to the Industry - Though all my last 8 years, I have always been in Consulting, so will be interesting to see how it goes.

Consulting is a lot about luck. I have a pretty regular 9-6 gig with no travel but some of my colleagueswork weekends, late nights and everything else.
