Taking into account all the hours every consultant works and we will estimate that 90% of consultants have some sort of traveling involved in their job.Has anyone experience ill health directly or in-directly through the life style or lack of life style that consulting offers?

Yes - absolutely. When projects 'go crazy' before a deadline or go-live, I find myself perpetually ill with colds or headaches. Its a symptom of 90 hour weeks in air-conditioned offices and pressurised working practices. Also noticed this in colleagues too...

I would love somebody to explain what you do if you work a 90 hour week. A diary outlining when you get up go to work, leave work etc. Its my view that this is an exgeration that is now perpetuated as a myth.On a 5 day week, 90 hours means you are out of the office for 6hours everyday

Promise it's not mythology - just done 2 in a row and not had a weekend in 4 weeks. Project is going live on Sunday. The killer is 14 hour days on weekends... the 6.30am Sunday alarm clock is enough to make anyone want to become a civil servant.

I can see how it occurs as an exception, and is easy to rack up if you work weekends. But its not all the time, just when deadlines come up. Having said that its nearly 11pm here and I haven't finished yet

Why on earth would anyone put up with repetitive 90-hour weeks? You must be completely mad. There are other ways to earn excellent money, as I can testify in industry.(Though I've been an MBB client on occasion in the past.)

I lost my flat stomach because of 1 year's commuting between the Midlands and Slough where I spent the entire week at my desk or in the car. (I used to come home twice per week.)

I now have IBS and just can't seem to get rid of it. Cause: anxiety and worry of job insecurity, deadlines, unreasonable pressure to excel at everything I do, long hours, unpredictable travel, transient colleagues, projects being simply one long deadline after another, internal bureaucracy, constant status updates and progress reports, unrealistic expectations, competitive colleagues, political co-workers, working for several clients at once, brutal internal appraisal system, big mortgage, mediore pay, seeing people who breeze through life in civil service and industry jobs earning the same as I do and leaving the office at 4.45pm every day for the 15 minute commute back home by car, egos of partners, endless cycles of feedback and edits to reports, intense scrutiny of job write-offs and timesheets, having to write articles and do marketing whilst also working a full day for clients... and I could honestly continue writing this list for another 20 minutes or so without running out of reasons.
