I am a Lead Software Development Engineer with more than 10 years experience specialized in Microsoft .NET. I have two offers from Sogeti as a Senior Technology Specialist and from Capgemini as Senior Consultant. I want to be in the Management Consultant area as soon as it can, so in that aspect Capgemini would be a much better choice, right? The problem is that Sogeti offers a much better salary.I have some questions about the two companies:How soon/easy can you become a management consultant within Capgemini from a Senior consultant role, level 19?How soon/easy can you become a management consultant within Sogeti from a Senior Technology Specialist?Which company offers a better environment for a .Net developer?Which company offers better opportunity if you want to shift from a Technical bachground to Management consultant?

Sogeti is an offshoot of Capgemini - but mainly a body shop for techies - testers, .net, config mgrs, techie pm's etcNormally 90% of times you'd be advised here to follow the money but given your career aspirations Capgemini is by far the better fit and therefore choice if you can afford the short / medium term financial hit. When I've been given a pm cv for a role who came from Sogeti they looked good but were 25% cheaper than a Cap pm who was less experienced. So if you have future aspirations beyond MC as a freelancer (plan B) then Cap will be better for you in those circumstances too.DC

It depends on the country.Capgemini is made up of various companies, including Applications Services (which does IT consulting and dev), Capgemini Consulting (which does management consulting with a lot of IT thrown in) and Sogeti (which does all of the above, often a lot more niche but also big international projects). The balance between which do what to what degree really varies by country - in some they plain compete, especially when there is no large external competitor. In the UK Apps and CC work closely together (Sogeti doesn't really get a look in), but there is limited movement between the companies. However, when there is movement it is normally towards CC as the pay is better.I'd suggest discussing with Sogeti what your career trajectory looks like, and if you're not convinced then take the safer option of Capgemini - where you will be a consultant.
