Hi,First time writer long time reader,I have received offers from both Delotte and Accenture, however both at different levels. The Delotte offer is for an SC and the ACN offer is at a Manager level. The salary is around the same however I ain't really worried about that as both are in the region of what am looking for and not much in it per monthly. The benefits beyond the extra 5 days at ACN are the same.I was wondering if the differing levels should matter too much in the different organisations and cultures. Would it be work taking Deloitte as an SC rather than as a Manager at ACN.Any insights would be much appreciated.

Starting as a manager will give you more responsibilities and thus faster opportunity to grow your capabilities. That would have my preference since to me that is one of the key reasons to work in consulting. On the other hand, you could/should also consider the difference in company culture between the two, as that will have an impact on your career and to some extent on your "professional satisfaction" in the mid term.Financially speaking I'm not sure what works best: starting at manager level should allow you to get to senior manager level earlier; however at Deloitte you should be able to get promoted rather soon to manager level which means an earlier boost to your salary.

If you do want to joint Deloitte, could you not leverage your Manager offer at Accenture to get them to increase theirs to M-level?I'm really surprised the salary offers are comparable...are they offering 65k for a SC at Deloitte these days?!

What was your role prior to joining? I presume it was an industry role. What area of the businesses do you have offers for? Is your current plan to stay within consulting or just stay for 2 years to reach a different target? How old are you?If you're comfortable with your consulting skills and have technical depth above that currently in the business then you should go with Manager offer. However, bear in mind it can be tough to come back from underperforming in your grade. If you'd prefer to play a longer game and operate in a safer environment for 18 months then take the SC offer. This might also give you the benefit of getting some grade progression on your CV to help any planned exit. I'm assuming the M grades have equivalent expectations between Accenture and Deloitte. Certainly the money has always been equivalent previously. So equally surprised the money is the same between grades in this offer.

Hi,Are you sure this is the correct offer? As per my assessment, Accenture should be Consultant whereas Deloitte should be Manager. Accenture generally offers 1 level lower than Big 4. They offered me the role of Consultant whereas I am working as Manager in a Big 4. Ofcourse I rejected the offer. My suggestion is to join a company who's giving you the level of Manager; it's not easy to get a level of Manager in Consulting.

I'm not sure this is true, Accenture certainly doesn't do as you suggest consistently.

Hi,Lot of responses already :)My background is 3 years at IBM on the grad scheme then 2 years at a digital startup and now in my 3rd year at a boutique consultancy specialising in Financial services. So I have a fair assessment of consulting as a whole, and as a result have come across both organisations quite frequently.ACN would be within their Capital Markets space and Dell would be within the TS&A. So very different areas indeed. I guess my question is if taking a Manager position at ACN be a risk over Dell where (the hope at least) I could move up the ladder. Besides the expectation of sales am assuming tasks carried out would be similar. The cultural differences are well documented and working with individuals from both have proved that. Would be interested to hear of others experiences of promotion cycles.Regards
I'm not sure this is true, Accenture certainly doesn't do as you suggest consistently.
Indeed, in fact I've more often seen the opposite, where Deloitte offers a level lower claiming that their expectations of managers and senior managers are a little higher than at Accenture. Probably it will depend case by case what they offer, but in reality the levels are quite comparable judging from ex-colleagues who have changed jobs between a Big 4 and Accenture, as well as vice versa.@ ConsultantNo1: taking a role as a manager is more of a risk if you have less experience leading teams, delegating, taking responsibility for others delivering, etc.Sales targets exist for managers but in your first year as a manager the pressure on those targets should be low - at least that's what I've seen in the past. Of course that changes in your second, ... year as a manager because sales is a crucial factor in moving up the ranks.I don't know the fine details of the promotion cycles at Deloitte so I'll leave it up to people with relevant experience to comment :)
