I just read this on the Mckinsey London global recruiting website. They say (whilst referring to worldwide McKinsey offices):"Please note that to be considered, you must be able to speak the local language to business level, And, Please note that offices will only consider applications from candidates who have a strong tie to the region."This is ironic, because I have heard of people who have never studied or worked in the US, working for Mckinsey there. Maybe the US is more liberal in its policy? But, then, the London office should not be making such statements on behalf of all offices. This confuses me further. I was sure of Brussels, HK, London and Dubai as my office choices; but do not have strong ties to these offices; and don't speak french / dutch / mandarin at business level. Does anyone know if knowldge of local language plus strong ties to the place to which you apply are important for Mckinsey? I know someone from Insead who will be starting in the US, never having been there. And I do know people who work at Brussels / Singapore who don't necesarrily speak french / chinese. Please advise.2. Are online applications screened by the office to which you apply or the one closest to where you stay? Need to know this because the academic requirements and the CV format tend to vary by region. Are there any Mckinsey insiders here who can guide me?Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Maybe what they do and what they say are, sometimes, two different things?

Perhaps you could put this question straight to recruiters at McKinsey to be sure? I imagine they are quite used to clearing up any confusion on these points, and it won't be held against you for wanting to get it right first time.

I have been recently rejected by Mckinsey London at the 1st round for associate position. I am wondering if anybody can suggest whether I can apply to any other office / how long do I need to wait to reapply at the same location?

12 months between applications. You can always send in applications earlier, but you'll just get them returned with a polite template email saying please wait 12 months from your last application before reapplying. Your full application is held on file for that period anyway, so that you can be automatically considered for other posts that come up within the firm.

Hi BRMckinsey says:A rejection from one Mck office is a rejection from Mck, and that if they interviewed you for first round or if you sat their test, you need to wait 18 months before they will consider you.Best is to call and confirm, but this is what they told us at a presentation.

Yeah, not only that, but who wants all those long hours and all the stressful travelling for the same salary you can get working in a normal job?

All that prestige, all those doors that open with a few years at McKinsey on your CV, all those contacts, the money, the feeling you are in the elite.See your point SVP - no one would want that in their right mind.

Prestige? Only among naive 21-year olds and inexperienced MBAs. In industry, you're lucky if people have heard of the Big-4. The phrase "MBBB" means nothing to them. Experienced consultants know that MBBB firms just market and brand manage well, but that their work is as clueless as anyone else's.Contacts and doors opened? A fallacy. Work in any reasonably large consultancy or blue-chip and be reasonably proactive and you'll make just as many contacts. More in fact because you'll be competing with fewer "names" for attention. From a blue-chip, the relationships you build will be a lot stronger because you have real knowledge and experience to offer (plus, a real budget to spend). As a consultant, everyone knows you're just networking and looking to sell them something.Money? Feeling like you're in the elite? Who are you kidding? Masters of the Universe was not meant to be taken seriously. As is well-established, accountants, actuaries, bankers and even headhunters make more money and get better recognition.
