Where do my fellow Consultants go for a good suit in the £300 price range ? Or will I have to shell out a bit more than that for a decent everyday suit ?I understand it will be different if one is not the average size (too short , too tall , too thin, too fat , etc) but just wanted to get a feel

Slaters Menswear - I go there not just for the good prices, but also because it's one of the few places that does suits in my size, and one of even fewer places these days that employs vaguely knowledgeable salesmen (in Ralph's Room - the higher end department)

I like it when I can get two pairs of trousers with the jacket, as that's what wears out the fastest. Usually suits like that are cheaply made though, and look it.Anyone know a place that sells nice-ish suits for a reasonable price with two sets of trousers? Thanks.

Definitely get the second pair of trousers, it will sav you dry-cleaning that suit so often, and save you should your trousers deteriorate. As for the suit itself, try raja fashions - look them up and find out when they are next in England, and nearest to wherever you are. They will measure you up and create a perfectly fitting suit, in a fabric and colour of your choice, but be prepared to haggle.

For God's sake can someone recommend a tailor/suit maker in the city (Liverpool St, Moorgate) who is good and affordable. None of this 'I went to HK cr*p'. All I want is a recommendation. How hard is that? Just post the name and street and I will pop along. TM Llewyns is for shirts not suits everyone knows that.
Please, for the last time, no smart Alec comments just post your recommendation e.g. Tailors name, address and number.
Thanks in advance

a bespoke suit ( tailored is something different ) for 300£ is like trying to buy a ferrari for a bag of potatoes.Go to biester ( however its spelled ) village in oxfordshire, get yourself a good cerutti suit half price, and thats your best bet. have the best hamburger you can buy - dont have the cheapest steak.

TM Lewin (not everyone can spell that!) also does suits. I believe they are reasonable. As for the City... it is not exactly the best place for clothing shops or tailors. The previous poster is quite correct in that you will not be able to find a bespoke suit for £300. You will not even be able to find a made-to-measure suit for this (there are differences) unless you find a cheap tailor in e.g. Leeds or Huddersfield. The nearest tailors will be on Clerkenwell Rd (good one, not cheap), Grays Inn Rd and Bethnal Green / Whitechapel. There is of course Austin Reed opposite the station and I once saw an advert for another operation whose name I forget. If you care to provide a budget and an email address I can provide specific recommendations, if you are prepared to venture slightly further.

You can find a made to measure suit for £300.Like i said before, Raja Fashions:http://www.raja-fashions.com/Go on the website, follow the links, and find out when they are next in England, in a city nearest to you (If based in London, they come regularly, and stop off at various hotels in the city).Call them up on the mobile number provided, book a slot in whichever location you choose. Turn up, they will take all sorts of measurements, show you a book of fabrics within your price range then take a photo of you.2-3 weeks later you will receive said suit via recorded delivery.I got my graduate suit from there for £285, and it was super-150s worsted wool (good quality, especially for the price).I did mention this a several posts back on the same thread, but there you go. No actual visits to Hong Kong required.

Oh and following on from my Raja post, be prepared to haggle with them, and spin some bullshit about this being the first of numerous suits in the future, so while you may be at the lower end this time, each subsequent suit will be increasingly in quality and accordingly in price. Basically drill it into them that a small concession on their part this time could lead to a long relationship involving the purchase of numerous expensive suits in future. I'm assuming you work in the profession, so bullshitting and schmoozing should come naturally.

I've had a look at the Raja website and it looks good.Has anyone actually had a suit made by Raja and was it as good as they expected? Most people I know just go to M&S, spend £150 or so and think no more about it. I guess spending twice that on a bespoke suit could be worthwhile. Is it?P

Unless you're loaded, what's the point in spending around £150 on a pair of trousers that will just get crumpled up, creased, stretched, dirty etc? It's M&S all the way for me baby

I use one of the many discout suit stores, try on as many as possible and choose the one that fits best - they have hundreds and you can usually pick up a deal on buying teo or three so for £450 you can walk home with half a years worth of suitable quality tailoring.Like anything else, buy the best that your budget can stretch too without hitting your other committments and continue to reasses this as you climb the ladder.Remember, looking the part is of absolute importance, but you can't polish a turd!

Yeah, they need better adverts. Someone should give them some marketing consultancy in exchange for a few suits.
