I will have a 1st round interview with Deloitte TI consulting soon. I was told that it composes a case studying + competencies-based interview. What does the case studying look like? similar to case interview in MC...or different (technology-oriented?)....Any additional tips will be much appreciated :-)

Relax!

Hi! First of all, you shouldn't worry too much about this 1st round interview. Being nice, smily, relaxed is half the job of making it to the next step. The other half of the job is thinking on your feet! You need to react quickly to very simple questions. Make sure you do understand what you are asked. If you don't understand what kind of answer the consultant wants, just ask him/her!The case studies, I think, are general and not related to the competency you applied to. However, as Deloitte often focuses on technology issues, you will certainly get a case study on a project that involves some technical issues. But be reassured, you do not need to have ANY technology knowledge! It's just to see if you understand how it can help in some projects.Last advice: try to read each question at the end of the case study before meeting the consultant, even if you have not enough time to answer them all on your written paper.Good Luck!

Thanks a lot, Relax...I really need to RELAX myself a little bit more...got stressed and frustrated with those SIMPLE competencies-based questions. Everyone says no one really cares what you say...but I don't think this is always true. I failed my first interview a couple of weeks ago (with another firm)...I don't think I gave the proper examples and the feedback from them reflected it. Well, part of learning curve and I didn't control my nerve very well anyway.

Relax!

You know, several companies didn't even bother to consider my application and just rejected it! I had only one option for my interview: succeed! I was really nervous and prepared myself to answer any competency question. You need to make a list of about 12 to 15 situations where you feel proud of what you did, where you learned sth (a failure or a success). Put each situation into one quality the company asks (for example, if the situation is about your successful exams, put it into the quality "achievement of goals"). Do this for all situations. However, during the interview, you can use one of your situations for some unexpected questions, such as "tell me about a time when you had trouble working with so.".For each situation:1) What is it about (context)2) What was your role3) How you completed the role4) What were the results (if they were positive: fine; if they were negative, say what you learnerd from your mistakes)With this, I think you'll be invited to the next round!Hope this helped!

I really enjoyed my 1st interview with Deloitte consulting actually, not because of the result (that I am invited to the final assessment), but the opportunity that I learned something from the interviewer via the case studying....For me, to get the job is of course important, however, it is equally (or perhaps more? hehe) important to learn things, if necessary, learn from mistakes, and finally improve/develop myself. I'm glad to get in the final assessment day with deloitte. However, I do realise that I still gotta a lot to do, hell a lot to learn....Can anyone tell me some information about Deloitte consulting (graduate) final assessment day? Many thanks :-)
