I am currently looking for an internship in corporate social responsibility/sustainable development in the London area. I have investigated a couple of consusultancies devoted entirely to CSR issues (SustainAbility, Accountability), but was wondering whether some of the more "conventional" firms have divisions that work on these kinds of projects. I have been unable to find any specific job listings, but suspect that finding a position in an in-demand area is probably more about who you know than anything else. Anyway, I would appreciate any information that you might have. Cheers!

I should have mentioned that my internship search is not restricted to consulting. I am generally interested in the interaction between the private sector and sustainable development, and would welcome advice from anyone in any sector (e.g., banking, private equity, etc.). Thanks again!

I am sure all of the Big-4 and various generalist consultancies will offer "sustainability audits" somewhere in their marketing materials, but in reality it isn't an area where they are credible or have sufficiently large teams to offer internships (unless, as you say, you are related to one of the partners).This is an area where the 'engineering' consultancies have an edge on the 'management' consultancies due to their expertise in environmental management, planning and impact assessment, HSSE, etc.Have a look at Atkins, HTSPE, Mott MacDonald, etc. There are also economic development organisations e.g. Adam Smith International which don't always like to describe themselves as consultancies, due to having charitable and political links. Check out the Economist for names of other firms.
