Make up for it by leaving at 4.00Or tell them you can't get in by 8.00 because of other commitments (aka sleeping). If they question you, say you attend an early church service each morning.I was once on a project many years ago where the boss would keep telling us we had to come in on Sundays. Each and every time, a colleague of mine said he had a wedding to attend. He used that excuse 5 ties in a row before the boss got the hint.

Turn up? Not that early, is it?It's about 30-60 minutes the wrong side of polite but hardly that much of an imposition.

It's okay if the project is going through an especially busy time and it's for a brief period. A manager of mine proposed to set up progress meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8am and 8:45am on a long-term project when there were already 3 days where I had to hold meetings with senior management between 17:30 and 19:00.This would have meant that mine and the teams working days would have been 11 hrs, 3 days a week for 12 months and 50% of my team would have had to start travelling at 4:30am on the Monday. I was the only person out of 12 people in the room to speak up and question it. The result was that we had the meetings twice a week between 5pm and 5:30pm, and emailed MI to the manager on a Monday and Friday (which we would have had to create to support the meetings anyway). This worked perfectly well.

Could you tell him you already have a meeting scheduled for 8.00am, so could he make it 7.00am instead?
