Delay in Deloitte Offer Letter

Hi Folks,I gave an interview for Deloitte's Human Capital consulting practice on 20th Dec 2014 and was asked to send in my salary related docs to the HR on 22nd Dec 2014. I did that but since then I am waiting for the offer from Deloitte. I had a word with the HR some 4-5 times, but all the time I got to learn that they are waiting for approvals. In addition, they did assure me that they are moving ahead with my candidature and there is no need to worry. Just wanted to know that is it normal to have such a long delay. It has been almost 3 weeks now. Is there a possibility that they probably are deciding budgets or something of that sort. Any inputs would be appreciated. Regards,SR

Yeah, what on earth is going on. It's been "almost" three weeks now even though that was all bang on top of the Christmas holiday period. Are you sure you're not one of my public sector clients in disguise?

Totally agree. It's Xmas so many people will take the first week, or at least the first few days in Jan, off work to extend the holiday and make the most of the break. They've reassured you multiple times during the holiday periods and it sounds like they're trying to keep you happy. Not a massive fan of HR departments but this one sounds great!Would suggest you stop hassling them until at least end of next week.

Yeah, if I were in HR and getting hassled like that (4-5 calls to HR during that period!!!) I'd be thinking "don't push your luck, buddy..."

Well, HRs are pretty straight forward people. They don't have to keep you happy unnecessarily. If something was fishy, they would have mentioned that. And since the interview I appeared was a recruitment drive, many people were shortlisted from a crowd. I learned that the complete batch is yet to receive a communication on next steps. I am not going to call them now until next week end. Let's see what happens. But honestly, feeling kind of depressed. I want it to be closed ASAP.

Can't really judge what you are trying to say. I guess you need to be a tad more clearer. Public sector clients bug you a lot it seems..Haha!!!

Put it this way, if you take the "almost three weeks" you have been waiting, and deduct the two weeks one can reasonably assume as being the holiday period, that means you have called and spoken to her 4-5 times in the course of literally a couple of effective working days. She's probably feeling hassled! Also, a tip: always withhold caller ID when calling. Otherwise people might see "shiran01 - 40 missed calls" on their phone when they come back from lunch. ;)And yes, public sector clients often do sh*t like commission work on Dec 24 and expect it completed on Jan 2nd. After all, that's over a week we've had to get it done!

Can I guess that you're a second jobber and going in at entry Consultant level? Don't be depressed, you've got an offer at a great company. Big companies require approvals for HR decisions and many other activities - a blessing and a curse.

Hmm...I know that I may be hassling them a lot. But, probably that's my nature to be impatient at such instances. Thanks anyways for making me realize that I need to be patient in this. And don't worry, I did not call them 40 times that could have shown them 40 missed calls. I understand that much. In addition, after reading your replies, it seems that you yourself are a lot hassled probably because of public sector clients, which could be the reason why you were able to explain the situation in a better manner ;) Please dont mind me asking.

Some companies delay the interview process. It is really hard to guess the reason the company might delay. It has been found that companies, mostly delay it because they want a candidate with less salary and giving better output. The only thing you can do is to keep following up with them after every two to three days.

Don't phone them every 2 to 3 days. Ask them when they're going to get back to you and if they say "5 days" wait until day 6.You sound like the guy who would send me an email, then send me an instant message 4 to 5 minutes after the email asking me if I'd actioned your email. I would have probably said something polite, but inside I was thinking "your request is not important to me or the business, you've really annoyed me with your approach, now go away". You don't want to make the recruiter think the same things about you.

Even you have this issue? That is really surprising considering who you are. Deloitte recruitment is notoriously bad. Send regular chasers and it should be resolved eventually, one way or another.
