All,I'm in need of some advice. Long story short, I have an offer for Technology Risk at a mid-tier accountancy firm. From what I can tell, it's essentially just IT audit.. I can study for the ACA but still, I can't help but think about the long term prospects of such a role. I don't see myself in IT audit all my life, and the prospect of studying for the ACA is tempting because of the apparent exit options. Is Technology Risk aka IT audit dead end? How likely is it I could move into some broader advisory work upon completion of the ACA?Thoughts appreciated.

I can try to provide some insight although I'm pretty junior myself so the information may not be completely accurate.I've spent a fair bit of time performing IT audits so far, and I complete agree they're not the most exciting or glamorous parts of the consulting business but they do help build a strong foundation of knowledge which can be applied to other sectors. In short, you won't be pigeon-holed. Alongside the ACA, I can imagine a lot of exit options for yourself. If there's nothing else on the cards right now - I'd accept the offer and complete the ACA. It may become repetitive with IT audit however you'll learn some valuable skills. Once the ACA is complete, feel free to try your hand elsewhere (maybe look at a big four at this stage)? Either way, I'd imagine you'll be desirable.Another potential route is asking if there is scope for internal transfers/secondments to other departments? Even if its for 6 months, it'll help get your name out there and provide you with insight into other areas you may be looking at.
