Good morning everyone,I’m looking for some career advice, hopefully you can help me with this. I want to be a consultant. Let me explain: as I don’t do much with my free time and work-life balance means very little to me I am decided to start a “structured” career in consulting now that I’m close to turn 30. I have a total of 5 years of experience with 2 years of those in the private sector (industry) in roles of internal consultant for operational excellence in small projects and 3 years in the public sector at an international level, but this time in large projects of transformation and operations excellence. I have a background in non-IT engineering from a top school in Europe and a couple of project management and IT certifications.I applied for several positions already, got a invitation from one of the MBB to do a test (didn’t go so well), got some good progress applying for the graduate programme of one of the big4 around 2 years ago and since I speak several languages I had some good feedback from BPO recruiters.I’m currently applying for roles in the Operations practices of the big4 in the UK at a Consultant/ Senior Consultant level but without much success so far.Assuming I can only get into consulting at an entry level with my current experience and education I see three different options:1) Join a graduate programme of one of the big4 (get’s me inside consulting but with 2 years of slaving before the salary gets better);2) Join a BPO role in one of the more IT oriented consultancies such as ACN, IBM or CGI (I start at a more senior level but I might not be able to jump into consultancy later so easily);3) Enrol into a top MBA in the US or UK (provides me networking, a valuable qualification and new perspectives but with a massive debt associated). Thanks for your thoughts!
