All staff unable to spell will be subject to summary execution by firing squad. Those who are also unable to punctuate will be sentenced to a subsequent period of not less than 18 months in the employ of Accenture.

Sweet. At least at ACN you'll be able to check your work mail over the web.

Why are these redundancies happening at ATOS and ACN? I thought the consulting market was booming.Certainly companies like EY, D&T and PA are hiring very aggressively...

In ATOS case I think it reflects the direction that the firm has taken. I don't get the impression that the KPMG Consulting acquisition resulted in a successful relationship.I know my experience even up to a year ago was of three different businesses with the same brand, leading to an unattractive offering. From contacts it sounds as if a lot of the good consultants that they bought have gone elsewhere since the acquisition.Commercial reality is that if you're not wining the business you need to tailor your capacity to match your activity. In the case of ACN it appears to me that the debacle over the NHSIT has led them to an overcapacity in their mid rank. Given their aggressive advancement policy they still need to recruit at the most junior levels to sustain their structure, but they can afford to clear out in the mid range. The firms which are hiring are either reflecting actual demand increases (Deloitte seem to be winning business) or are potentially shaping their capacity to suit their aspirations (E&Y).

I wouldn't say there's been any change in the market as a whole, firms are still enjoying sizeable order books and struggling to hire consultants fast enough to meet client demand.HOWEVER - in the case of some of these major brand consulting firms, they do have some contracts that are enormous and that make up a sizeable portion of revenues. When such a contract comes to an end - either through the natural conclusion of the project or through some kind of termination - then it is inevitable that the resourcing needs of the firm change quite significantly. This is the backdrop with which any redundancies need to be viewed - it's not that the businesses as a whole have gone bad, but that certain practice areas within firms are struggling to cope with massive shifts in demand from the ending of key contracts.Don't lose any sleep over Xmas thinking that the consultancy hiring boom will not last into the New Year though - it most definitely is here to stay for the duration of 2007!Rgds, Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

I don't know why you think ACN are making people redundant - we are not. Quite the reverse recruitment across all ranks and especially and mid-teir is very agressive. Most parts of our business are running at over 90% utilisation. To be sure this has been an odd year at Accenture but one caused by one or two isolated situations. Don't get me wrong - I think that snr management have some pretty major soul searching to do - but the bleakness painted in some quarters is a little over-blown.

Hello,I just received a Job offer from ATOS in their System Integration division, should I join? During the interview, which ocurred about a week ago, all three directors felt very confident about the future and they even went the extra mile to hire me on the salary I requested which was higher than what they had in mind.Thank you.
