I wouldn't say there's been any change in the market as a whole, firms are still enjoying sizeable order books and struggling to hire consultants fast enough to meet client demand.HOWEVER - in the case of some of these major brand consulting firms, they do have some contracts that are enormous and that make up a sizeable portion of revenues. When such a contract comes to an end - either through the natural conclusion of the project or through some kind of termination - then it is inevitable that the resourcing needs of the firm change quite significantly. This is the backdrop with which any redundancies need to be viewed - it's not that the businesses as a whole have gone bad, but that certain practice areas within firms are struggling to cope with massive shifts in demand from the ending of key contracts.Don't lose any sleep over Xmas thinking that the consultancy hiring boom will not last into the New Year though - it most definitely is here to stay for the duration of 2007!Rgds, Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com
