Hi Hi I’m finding it difficult to get into consultancy with a 2.1 in marketing from an average uni with no blue chip experience and a HND in marketing I do plan to do an MBA in a few years when I get the money together but was considering doing a Msc in Management consultancy at University college Dublin it will give me consultancy experience as the programme they run give you real life projects. My question is do you think it will help?? I’m 25 and looking to progress as quickly as possible do you think I’m wasting my time?? Any help would be great thanks

It may be better to work out exactly what type of consulting you want to do and do an MSc that specialises in that area.

I would have to agree. An Msc in 'how to be a consultant' is less likely to get you in than strong technical knowledge or experience and a passion for a particular sector.I came in as an experienced hire after 5 years in industry but it was my knowledge of that industry and my ability to apply it that got me in and certainly not my academic record! If you are good enough and add to their knowledge/expertise all of the big firms will be happy to train you in house in consulting skills/project management etc... which will probably be sharper than an academic course anyway.Good luck!

I had orginally planned to do a Msc in Strategic management and planning but the Management consultancy course offered the most valued work experience which I am lacking what industry did you work in Globo?

I am not in the UK, so I am not familiar with the strenght of this program. But, if anyone were to ask me about this proram, i would probably advise against it. It seems like a program that was designed by the shcool to just milk money from desperate mc-aspiring students. If u really want a heads up, just do an MBA...after all, an MBA is suppose to give u the all rounded skills MCs are looking for anyway.

Frankly - yes. If your academic qualifications aren't up to scratch, another not-up-to-scratch course is not going to impress anyone. Get a few years of good work experience in an industry you are interested in, then move to consulting (if you still want to)
