It can be, but it can also be shorter term or longer term, in the job you are applying to or more generally. It depends on what your objectives and expectations are.For example, some people will be fairly clear that they want to stay with one organisation and aim to make partner within 8 years. Other people will be less fixed on their career direction and aim to get a broad grounding in business before making an informed decision on where they want to specialise. Still others will have an ambition to start their own business one day, but want to get training, networks and insight before they make the plunge.As in so many of these questions, there is no right or wrong answer or way of answering. Some firms will be clear that they only want people ready to make a long term commitment, others will expect a high turnover rate as people go off to do MBA's or burn out and so will be looking for people with realistic expectations of how impermanent the employment relationship will be.
