I have 6 yrs corporate HR experience in HK which focused on payroll, systems and compensation. I then moved to a global HR consulting firm as compensation and benefits consultant. After a year, I did a fulltime MBA course in the UK. I then joined another global HR consulting firm in Singapore as consultant with regional responsibility.I quitted the job when I was pregnant and moved to London with my husband in Nov 2003. So I have been a fulltime homemaker for almost 3 years. Now as our little boy is getting more independent, I have decided to go back to work.My concern is that I don’t know how employers view people like me? Would it be very difficult for me to get a job at similar level as before (provided I have no UK experience too)? Is there any part-time consultant position in the market? I don’t seem to see any. Please advise :)

All the big firms hire part timers, and all have women with children working with themYou need to talk to some recruiters both in house and search firms to find out who is most likely to look kindly on APAC experience- many firms will, but you need to apply to the right practise

Hi, I guess you would prefer working from home with current responsibility. If parttime working from home and partime commuting is possble for you than a change in line or expansion of areas from your past experience to do healthcare consultancy and HR work is possible. If intersted try the email above, or reply here.AK

http://www.zambeasy.com/_images/set11.gifHi Kelly, sure. The healthcare sector has new opportunities as many services are being restructured. Projects can be made from home and few salient points / details discussed via net or phone. Some commuting for attendance to imp meetings / workshops will be needed; this depends if you have some previous healthcare experience or if you are closely involved in new issues arising at your surgery / NHS level with re- to current changes....You can always take a start but that than depends on your interest and career path in mind! Can reply to this email here again. ThanksAK

My advice is be wary...I've seen many instances of part-time pay but full-time work, particularly at the Big Firms. At the end of the day, a client deliverable is client deliverable...a deadline is a deadline. Not quite acceptable to say, "I already put in my 10 or 20 hrs this week, so I can't work anymore." I've had supposedly part-time colleagues who were putting in 40 hrs a week anyway as expectations of work quality and rigor were just as high.

Hi There. The job review should happen regularly to avoid this -Parttime should mean that with number of hours and work agreed and scope to review. On the same note if someone works flexibly from home, need to keep the agreement to do a fixed amount of work in given 'time range'. Work can be left pending - with time gone whilst at home - and culture change for flexible work is not easy. Strict regime and strong will person is needed. That said productive employees will always benefit a faster upgrade and reviews every quarterly for number of hours putting in and annually for salary review.I can send the details if interested.AK
