Does anyone know whether PA Consulting or Deloitte Consulting have and significant projects in the North West (particularly Manchester) at the moment?

What kind of projects are you interested in? Who are you with at the moment?

I'm just interested to find *any* projects they have in the North West. I don't think the company that I currently work for affects the answer to this question... :)

PA has an office in Manchester but effectively you join a global pool of consultants, you obviously get expenses paid if you have to travel away from your office. The only advantage you have in being recruited locally is by befriending Partners/ MCs who also have similar views and being first pick when something sells. There are quite a few jobs I've heard of up north, though many in Leeds rather than Manchester.

Lots of PAs government jobs are close to manchester - DWP and HMRC have big offices around the north west. PA has also done a lot of work for manchester city council. There have been big jobs there too for some pharma companies based in manchester. so yes, there is plenty of work around there.agree with kev tho. you join the firm and then make your own luck in terms of getting on jobs close to home by networking with the local MCs and partners. The PA office in manchester has roughly 100 consultants (so pretty small) and tends to be more senior ranks

Deloitte has offices in Manchester, and there are several projects in the NW, both in private and public sector. If you join as a graduate (Analyst), you'll be based in London, however you might end up working on a project in NW. You can join a "regional" office once you've been promoted to Consultant, or if you join at this grade (or above) as an experienced hire.

Nonsence. Deloitte Manchester takes on a significant number of graduates both in its Consulting and ERS practice. You don't need to start in London

You should try to get recruited into the London Office, network like crazy and then transfer to the Manchester office. You don't want to miss out on the London weighting on your salary, as this is not likely to be removed when you transfer. I don't know how it would work at Deloitte - but I would be suprised if it were different.

I'm a Deloitte grad starter in consulting for 2008 and I can assure you they do not recruit to the Manchester offer at analyst level. It's ERS practice may be different, however.

You mention PA and Deloitte. I know Accenture have an office there with a fair bit of work near by too.

I know for a fact that ERS do take graduates on in the regional offices as I have applied to one myself.

As a current Analyst in Deloitte I can confirm we recruit NO analysts into regional offices. Our analyst programme recruits only in the London office, and what is said elsewhere is correct, you can transfer when you make consultant to a regional office, but be prepared for a pay cut.
