Being turned down by IBM is a lucky escape. IBM and ACN regularly vie for the worst employers in the marketplace

Apparently all consultancies are terrible places to work. Won't someone stand up and tell us how wonderful their employer is?

I did Tony. You'll need to develop more resilience in your job hunt if you take every set back as a comment on your personal worth. You are not suited to IBM at this juncture, that is all. Depending on your skills and qualifications, you may be more suited to working at a professional services firm such as one of the Big 4 advisorys, Cap Gemini, or PA. Who else have you applied to?

Hi Tony. The tests aren't maths tests. They are easy, look at arithmetic and your ability to structure problems in a logical manner. They are also a good indication of whether can think under pressure (although thats not what they are designed for). Anyone at degree level should be able to pass them. (but if you cant pass them because you cant add up, then dont bother with consulting anywhere). That said, failing one of these tests does not mean you cannot be a good consultant - i presume you had just not seen them before and were daunted by the numbers on the page. You need to learn from this experience. Why not try and get good at them? Just practice before your next interview. Its like a su doku puzzle - which itself is not a maths problem but intimidates people because of the numbers. i thought they were hard a t first. i practiced and figured out how to solve them. now i can do them quickly. if i had to complete a su doku puzzle to get a job, i reckon id go to the newsagents and buy a book of them and do them all night...If you admit defeat at the first hurdle, complain about the entry process and you are not willing to work at it then you are definitely not cut out to be a consultant.if you practice and still cant pass them then i would suggest that you are not cut out for consulting anywhere.

In reply to thinker I have applied to accenture also I wasn't saying that i was giving up because of my set back with IBM I just wanted to see what other people thought. I have a 2.1 in Marketing and a HND in Marketing having No A levels is a killer. I am prepared to work at these tests as I want to turn my weakness into my strength. My main aim is to become a strategy consultant but it seems very difficult to get into the Industry. Any ideas?
