Morning all,Recently got the news I'll be promoted from C to SC at Deloitte, which is great - although we don't find out what that means in money terms until some point next month. For anyone who's been through this before, how negotiable is the payrise? Last year was pretty cut and dry in that nobody got a payrise, I'd joined 3/4 months before so no promotion and an automatic "3" rating; this time round I feel like I have more bargaining power (charged out at SC rate since October, "4" rating as well as high ranking vs. peers, above target utilisation) - does this count for anything or is it a case of "this is what we will pay you, deal with it"?

If you're planning on negotiating a pay rise, you'll need more than a 4 rating and above average utilisation. You've just had a promotion and with it will come a nice bump in pay. The way to drive increases in your salary probably isn't to just ask for pay rises at the end of every performance year. It's more about making timely and well thought out tactical moves between firms and performing well enough to get promoted ahead of your peers. That said, if you think you've got a case (and I'd suggest you think of a better one than the one you describe) then it's not unheard of for pay rises to be given. It normally comes as a result of handing in your resignation with a better offer that is not directionally too different to what you would be doing at Deloitte. Even then it will depend on the relationships you have in your practice, your performance, your current engagement and crucially the market. In these cases I have heard of people given immediate pay rises, loyalty bonuses and promises of early promotions. Be careful when you choose to cash this hand in though. Make sure it's part of a longer term career strategy.

Apologies, maybe I wasn't clear enough.
You've just had a promotion and with it will come a nice bump in pay.
I was asking specifically how negotiable the size of this bump in pay is.

ConsultingDuck,Understood. My response was attempting to answer precisely that question. Negotiating a pay rise a after a promotion / on receiving your promotion is no different to negotiating a pay rise at any other time.In short - the answer is not very negotiable. And with the reasons you give - close to not negotiable at all.

You're already assuming you won't be happy with your new salary?
