while I was busy delivering a programme for a couple of years, someone seems to have gone round and put the word 'digital' in front of everything in the consulting industry. digital strategies, digital health checks, digital transformations, blah de digital blah. the worst offenders are Capgemini, who presumably now drink a digital coffee before having a digital waz. does this actually mean anything different to what was already going on, or Heaven forfend, is it just a load of old marketing tosh?digitally yoursDigital RC

It's marketing tosh. It's a hipster way of saying "anything vaguely related to the web".Just like back in 1999, when you used to eat an e-sandwich before going to take an e-dump.Then in 2005 when we had iLunch before pulling down your iTrousers to sit on the iThrone.Nowadays we drink digital coffee before going for a digital waz. Sometimes we're highly agile in the way that we do it, too.I'm sure there's a way of making money from this bizarre social phenomenon. How can we use it to control the lemmings?

well, we can make money by 'digitally transforming' any remaining consultancy that hasn't gone down this route so far - I'm thinking a quick 'global replace' macro run against their catalogue of product offerings to insert the D word wherever possible...

I think 'transformation' has lost its impact too as it now gets applied every time someone produces a couple of new reports. So perhaps the next wave is 'iDigital Transubstantiation' ?

I predict the resurrection of that late 90's classic, updated of course...."Digitisation enabled paradigm shift"Which is good cos my favourite consulting joke will once again be in circulation !

Personally, I think we are all hopping aboard a very full iBus.As the foremost front-thinkers, we should be setting the iGenda, not merely following it.It is no longer about Digital, it is no longer about e-. Nor should we transform or advocate deviation of any kind.Analogue Constant-ness. It's the future.

Gosh, You guys are so yester-year!Its not all about digital, you 1980s prawn cocktail loving cassette player musicians! Your digital love is about as advanced as the steam engine.;pWe are now into "cloud computing"! Cloud computing this, cloud computing that! Lets get all our data on the cloud etc etcI reckon some smarty pants will want to go further and not doubt soon they will be wanting to talk about "Ozone Layer Computer", as it is "Cloud computing taken to the next level"

Anon MC that was soooooo yesterday!Today's trend is the next step of BYOD in Cloud - yes BYOC! Everyone will bring their own Cloud computing virtualised suite of software, data marts et al everywhere they go. People will say 'don't be such a (S)aas' when people jerk around.

Forget BYOD ! the future is BOPD ! Bring Other People's Devices ! Why buy your own thing when a new snazzy hipster website will allow people to share the downtime of their own devices by allowing you to download the entire look, feel and operation of their device onto a totally vanilla open-open-oh-so-open source electronic box that you can rent at a fraction of the price of ownership? In fact the whole thing can be 3d printed in an instant once we have your credit card details!C'mon VCs, PE firms and rich tech individuals - you know it makes sense!Chameleon

With all the improvements in remote working tools and the shrinking availability of project space at most clients, I'm increasingly enjoying DBBYI - Don't Bother Bringing Yourself In.

BrillGiven me ideas for a prez later - Ozone layer computing and BYOC - classicsOn another point going digital is just a fad and look at following - already moving to post digital era I guess:-http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/disciplines/mobile/news/telefnica-digital-axed-in-restructure/4009625.articleDC

I don't think it's a fad - and it isn't disappearing at Telefonica, its just the brand being closed so the digital dev work will simply sit in another cost centre. This is a move to realign the business to an omnichannel model I suspect (but without them actually stating it) - such small margins left in MNO now that ramping UP the digital estate, and the data mountains which come with that, will be where the squirrel puts the nuts.

Guys, Guys,Wow, you guys are behind again! Things have moved on since this thread started you Hulk Hogan loving 1980's Dungeons & Dragons players, stop listening to Sade and listen to this smooth operator:The next big thing is... the Digital / Physical blur of business as Generation x (aka spoiled brats who watched too much "get famous quick even though you have no talent" TV programmes) come into the fore. They have grown up with technology around them, hence the "brick requirement" will matter less and less...

I see on the other page here Capgemini are recruiting a 'Digital Programme Manager'. A sad day indeed when human consultants have been replaced by robots able to generate ambiguous status reports at 5 times the speed
