ACA vs ATT/CTA

I have been offered a position at two of the Big 4 firms, but one job is to do tax consulting (and work towards ATT/CTA qualifications), and the other is to do audit (ACA). The tax role is within a specific function to do with advising multinational organisations re. personal tax for their employees. The advice I have been given so far is that the ACA will give me broader opportunities when qualified, whereas joining such a specific sector within tax could restrict my options in the future. However, when it comes to comparing the day to day role, the tax job appeals to me more. Any advice would be much appreciated.

More options doesn't necessarily mean better options.

@Mars - so which one do you advise he/she go with? Unfortunately I have no idea what to say here as its not my bucket but surely some more in depth advice can be given around this from someone!

ACA is likely to open more doors for you. Plus you can still do tax, with the ACA, if that's what floats your boat.A quick practical check is for you to think about what role or career you want to have 3 years from now (3 year training contract) and go have a look at what recruiters plus corporates are looking for. If you want to do a tax role, then go for ATT/CTA. If however you would prefer to have more optionality built into your career then run away from ATT/CTA and choose ACA.Disclosure: I'm a chartered accountant turned management consultant so maybe biased.

Not immediately anyway.
