One of the things I have picked up over the years (having had it happen to me on one occasion, and having seen it happen to others) is not to deliver negative feedback/generally give someone a ticking off on a Friday afternoon if it can wait til Monday.Chances are that person won't be able to resolve it over the weekend and it will just ruin their weekend and make them dread coming into to work on the Monday morning. If you raise it on the Monday morning you will probably have a clearer head (having had time to think it through over the weekend) and the person will have a whole week ahead of them to address the issue. This is more directed at colleagues and direct reports as opposed to client staff. (I'm not suggesting hiding bad messages from client leads)

Not been a manager for long however one thing is certain be a leader not a boss and your people will respect you and want to work for you. By this I mean set the objective, work with the team to achieve the common goal, share your experiences with the juniors, discuss blockers, escalate as necessary. My current manager has not learnt many of these skills and his cardinal sins include: attempting to remote manage, only talks to staff to get the detail and exert pressure constantly.Previous bosses I have been impressed with are people orientated, thought leaders, and able to take feedback both positive and constructive. And before anyone says it no this is not meant to be self promotion .....

Avoid the temptation to try bang the hotties. The short-term gratification won't be worth the longer-term hassle and torment.
