Dear All,Could you advice me about these companies and in particular about their Energy groups:1. Celerant-Hitachi Consulting (Energy)2. EY Programme Advisory Services (Energy and Utilities)3. Accenture Energy & Utilities Consultant Role?Generic information I have gathered on these firms:1. Celerant-Hitachi Consulting: they have a big backing from Hitachi that employs over 300k people worldwide. It is much better known brand name for an average Joe, but it looks like not well known in the consulting services. Hitachi Consulting is about 5k strong and keeps growing. I felt that their new acquisition Celerant is more involved in implementation than strategy development though it often goes hand in hand. If I end up working on oil rigs (and I find this really attractive), then I will be working 2 weeks offshore and then 2 weeks stay at home. They say they offer great training and career support, but won’t say that? I wonder how it compares with EY and Accenture. Celerant is quite independent from Hitachi, therefore I wonder if there is a good support for the development.2. EY – it is Big4 and they have well known training programme and career development support. A lot of national-international travel, but mainly to city offices. Work will be everything, but IT related.3. Accenture – perhaps it is the best technical consultancy that is strong in IT. And they have really good training, but I don’t know how good career development is there. A lot of national-international travel, but mainly to city offices. I suspect work will be a lot around IT implementation and strategy for energy and utility companies.Paywise, I suspect Hitachi offers the highest pay, then EY and then Accenture. However, it is possible EY will offer the same as Hitachi. All these companies seem great to me, I like them all and hope to get the offer from them all too, but the main thing is to join a company where I can grow, get enough workload, develop and stay for many years. Unfortunately, I had not so great experience with boutiques and one 3K strong consultancy before and don’t want to repeat the experience. Thanks

A bit late to respond but having worked for 2 out of those 3 (though not specifically in their energy groups), here's my 2 cents:1. Most of the 5000 Hitachi Consulting employees (maybe 80% or so) do IT related work. As you say, Celerant focused mainly on operational implementation with a little strategy, rather than the other way round. However I don't think you can be dedicated to energy in that firm, at least not with their current size of management consulting, even if you can specialize in that field and therefore get staffed more often on such projects. From what I've heard, training in Hitachi Consulting is very much like it is with the bigger firms... which boils down to mostly on the job training with few worthwhile "formal" trainings other than soft skills ones.2. For E&Y it does tend to depend a bit on which geography you are talking about. With the Big 4's the question is always how strong they really are in a certain field. Of course consulting firms of that size will claim they cover all sectors, have specialists in everything but some practices are stronger than others, especially when you look at specific geographies. Each Big 4 has a different flavour but generically speaking I've found them to be a bit more hierarchical than typical other consulting firms.3. I have the same comment about training here as I have for Hitachi Consulting. Career development will have the same positives and negatives as in a Big 4; what matters most is who is in charge of the team you're working in, i.e. the partner(s) heading that off. If they know what they are doing and delegate well, you'll have a much better learning opportunity and hopefully advance faster in your career. From what I've heard, their work in the energy sector is very much IT focused and less strategic. Not sure whether their "operational consulting" teams (similar to what Celerant is doing) have already ventured into the energy & utilities area.Which geography are you based in and which level are you looking for?I'm surprised that you would expect E&Y to pay better than Accenture, at least in the countries where I have knowledge of, they are pretty comparable. Also not sure whether Hitachi Consulting really pays better or whether that depends on the geography + they seem to be less tax optimized so while the gross salary may be higher, not sure whether the same goes for your net pay and other benefits.
