Hi everyone, This is a great forum and I hope to contribute in the future. I have just (last week) completed interviews with IBM and told I am likely to get an offer soon. I am coming from a small company and one thing that will be different is that IBM will give me a car/car allowance. Any info on how this works with IBM and what I am likely to get? Also, how quickly do company cars take to be ordered and delivered. Do you think I will be able to order in advance so it is there on day 1? If not, how do I travel to start with. Thanks for any infoNew to big business

Get the corporate American Express to pay for all your travel. Most of your journey s will be plane, train or taxi.As for the car... Most people get something like a BMW 320, Audi A4 etc. Roughly 20K car. Key thing is you're encouraged to get something with less than 2.0 engine for tax purposes. Fuel to the client can be expensed.

Your car takes as long as it takes to be delivered based on popularity and spec you specify. I've heard of 3 months for some people cause they went for a model that had just been released and some people it's 2-4 weeks cause they got readily available spec and colour.

If you need a car for work, and want something new, then hire purchase through IBM will be a cost-effective approach. My company uses Zenith. You visit the site, configure the car as you want it, and then receive a live price quote based on 24 or 36 month repayment period, age for insurance, and your annual mileage.

Pah, just spend £1000 on a 2nd hand diesel monde and pocket the car allowance. It's basically salary anyway.

Use your own credit card that give cashback or some other perks (airmiles etc). The corporate one doesn't give any advantages except it has no credit limit. Be very aware that the corporate one is in your name, not the company name.Don't get caught up with the company car allowance only allowing a crap car and pay 'extra' to get what you want. I really don't see why people do that as it is wasted money and messy on exit.

^^ Great advice! Also, check the tax implications of the scheme as you may be liable to 'benefit in kind' tax.
