Are any of the more established MC firms particularly active/strong in the music industry? I know most have TMT divisions (or similar). Do any have a strong enough pipeline to treat this as a standalone industry with dedicated staff?

Can't speak from experience, but judging by the creative industry's contribution to GDP (circa 7%,) and this:http://www.prsformusic.com/aboutus/corporateresources/reportsandpublications/addinguptheindustry2011/Documents/Economic%20Insight%2011%20Dec.pdfI can't see it as a huge focus, though you're likely to find some such work in the M component of TMT, especially if you bring industry experience.

Thanks for your thoughts powernap. While industry size (importance) is clearly one key factor in assessing an industry's need for consulting services, I'd have assumed industry dynamics/transformation would be another.Few industries have faced such an upheaval in the last 5 years (I believe the 'stable' revenues from recorded music in your below link mask an ongoing reversal of revenue streams - digital having recently overtaken physical music as a source, coming from nowhere 5 years ago). As such I was wondering whether any MC had got their foot in the doors on the Universal/Sonys of the market, and made a name for themselves as the go-to shop for the industry, even if it still represents a relatively small part of their total pie.

Incidentally, I've found out that BCG separates the M (from TMT), with a separate 'Media & Entertainment' practice. Fairly well staffed, according to their website. They also advised Universal Music on their last 2 major takeovers. I guess that could be my answer.Any additional knowledge/thoughts on this appreciated.

I'd imagine the ROF part is bad for your suit, and quite distracting for your colleagues, unless you're working from home (skiving) too, in which case I hope it's a smooth wooden floor: far less abrasive than a carpet. Especially as you got down for another go after the first time.

The sector simply isn't big enough to sustain much of a strategy consultancy business. Nearest thing in the UK would be a research/ consulting outfit like Music Ally. If you really want to work in Music (and IMO that's a big error - always choose a growing market/ sector) then you'd be better off trying to get a job in a company in the sector or adjacent to it (e.g. a product / commercial/ BD role at Spotify or something).
