I'm moving from industry to consulting for the first time - which would be a better role - Operational Transaction Services at EY or Operations Transformation Consulting at PwC? EY offer slightly larger than PwC.

So surely you don't have experience in both? Confused :-(

Operational Transaction Services and Operations Transformation are very different areas of professional services. In transaction services, you'll be doing operational due dilligence type work for possible acquisitions/mergers or preparation for carve outs, etc. Operations Transformation is more likely to be a mixed bag of traditional ops and business transformation consulting. The work could be setting up shared service centres, cost cutting projects, organisational design, etc. There are some skills that are consistent across the two, but generally the works is quite different and also commands different lifestyles. I'm surprised you don't know the difference between the two (or it just sounds like you don't) and already have the offers.

[/quote]Just to avoid confusion - I think you're answering me not the person with the job offers. Thanks for the explanations, pretty much confirms what i thought - completely different jobs. Seems a bit strange that the OP has offers for experienced positions in both! For TS in particular, you need a pretty technical accounting background for that work that wouldn't really coincide at all with the OT role?

Currently PwC are nailing it in the market so I would recommend going to them if you want to go for a large consulting firm. Deloitte are good but they never seem to manage to integrate experienced hires into their business from friends of mine I know that work there.Good luck and hope you make the right decision!

OTS is likely to pay better because it is M&A focussed - however your work-life balance is likely to be worse than in Operational Consulting.Bear in mind also that PwC tends to pay better bonuses than EY (on average), but lower base pay.You need to think about where it will take your career - M&A is a relatively niche area which will narrow your options for a next job, Ops Consulting is broader. M&A is also more competitive and back-stabbing in general.Nevertheless, M&A in a Big 4 can give you exposure to some amazing projects, albeit in a relatively narrow field.hope this helps
