HiJust looking for some general questions to help prepare for a manager level interview in a big 4 business strategy consulting team. I have the subject matter questions covered off so more looking for the general ones that people would expect, like; "tell me a time you dealt with a missed deadline", that kind of thing, but at the manager level.CheersJay_d

Have you checked who will be interviewing you? Frankly if the person interviewing you isn't at least 5 years older than you, I'd turn the interview down.

Hmm, panel interviews often mean time-wasters. It means the role exists but frankly it's a lottery getting it. Do you know how many other candidates they are interviewing for the role? Are there any internal candidates applying? When is your slot? Try and arrange it so that it's the one just before the last slot (especially important for panel type interviews where they build up their questions as they go along based on what the previous candidates have said). Also, expect the questions to be of the sort where the junior ones don't really care about the answer so much as what the most senior one in the room will think of the question, if you see what I mean.

Agree with Bushy on this one - panels are all about a performance - show them the X (or M in this case) factor, be seen to address answers to the panel not just the one who asked the question.

Exactly. Frankly they won't care what your answer is so long as you look and act the part. Selection panels are very shallow like that. They'll be judging you on very superficial things and whether you'll fit in. Mirror body language: if they're all poker-faced, act the same; if they're all jumpy and excitable, act the same. Also, if one of the junior guys asks a smart-ass question, compliment him on something and flatter him in front of his boss. He'll like that, and will reward you when it comes to their de-brief session.
