HiWhat is the difference between a GB 4 and GB3 at hsbc? Is a GB3 seen as director level and GB4 a VP. What are the salary differences between a GB3 and 4?

GB4 is junior management- it's the first serious rung on the ladder- you might have a small handful of direct reports for the first time in your career. You're probably mid to late twenties. I started that grade on £48k plus £5k car allowance plus £10k bonus and was on £65k plus when I left. The band tops out at about 80k plus 10-15 bonus in the dept I was in. Typically 3 month notice period. GCB3 has a bunch of GCB4s reporting in and is the next rung up. On about £120 plus. Usually a deputy manager type role. On about 6 months notice. GCB2 is a significant role - head of department/sub-function. My GCB2 boss was on £175k plus £50k bonus. GCB1 is a very serious position. No idea about money. GCB0 is group managing director level and the money is sky hi. Obviously all this depends on what part of the business you are in.

Hi Compsec,Thanks for your reply. I've been offered a GCB 4 on 75k inc London weighting and car allowance (excluding bonus). Seems like you were able to achieve a good salary progression. How long were you a GCB 4 for?How long are GB4 position holders in their role before they gain a GCB3 position?

It is not a time-based promotion! You will need to apply for a GCB3 grade role and get that new, totally different job. It's a substantial jump....

Thanks. In terms of GB3, it's more for me to have something to aim for as a measure of success in my new role with the assumption that if I perform well as a GB4 and demonstrate GB3 traits then it would stand me in good stead, rather than being a pure time bound question

Industry seems to have cottoned on in the last few years with internal consultant type positions with attractive salaries so best of both worlds in terms of pros and cons

What global career band is it under? Is it a GB3 or GB4? Then you can align it to what the recruitment consultant has outlined ( referring to the comment below)

GCB1s make anywhere between £190K to £450K in base salary. Obviously dependent on what part of the business one works for and the bonus is a separate thing.
