I'm interested in hearing about your thoughts/experiences with working in a firm for a very short amount of time. You joined thinking things would be great and then realised it just wasn't the right place for you. 1.How long did you stay with the firm and what made you decide you should be some where else? Was it because you were promised a certain role, level of responsibility or type of work and didn't get it? Did the firm's strategy change shortly after and that didn't coincide with your aspirations? Did the firm just sell you the dream? Or was it just bad timing and you honestly found a much better role shortly after?2. Was it difficult talking to another firm and them asking why you left so quickly? What if it was only a few months (say less than 3 months), did that make you look like a risky candidate? How did you overcome this? What are your thoughts and experiences?

I did a 12 month consulting stint focusing on specific skills to prepare for next role. It helped me transition from one industry to next. It does come up, but since it came right after a 6 yr role, and explained clearly, it has not been an issue, once you get to the interview. It is however possible that some people might see that as a negative before an interview, that you can't help

Did one year at the big4 not really my cup of tea, went to work in industry which doubled my pay but unfortunately me and the entire team was made redundant after 10 months. Then had an 18 month contract in Operations (I have a technology background) so was a nice change until it was cut to 6 months due to the company buying another firm and focusing on the integration on before my current role. Not a serial mover more someone who has had to due to circumstances. On the contrary I a friend who has been working in consulting for 8 years and has moved 18 times, and no he is not a contractor just very good at interviews and moving if he doesn't like it......... unsurprisingly he is moving again in November move number 19!

astonishing... a firm would have to be nuts to hire somebody as a permanent employee, knowing they had had 19 jobs in 8 years... what does the guy do, join a firm then hand in his notice 3 months later...?

Not far off it - seems to be superb at building relationships and delivering for the time he does work anywhere. Proved by the fact he has gone back to the same firm to work in his previous role a few times, has been TUPE'd once, now is moving to industry.
