Hi all,Yes my third year result was a 2.2. But it was above 60%. I am still doing my master degree.A similar question was asked in this forum a few years ago by someone from Cambridge got 2.2. I read about how he/she eventually got rejected by MBB (well, I am not attempting them). Maybe my situation here is slightly different to his/hers? As my percentage mark is actually 2.1 standard if I were studying in another UK university. Any thought? Comment?Thank you and good luck to you all.

You either got a 2.1 or 2.2, and whatever it was goes on your CV. Unfortunately a 2.2 is an automatic rejection for many consultancies - not just MBB, but ACN, Deloitte etc. too.

What sort of thing are you trying to get into? 2:2 might let you get into something technical which you could eventually transfer over from. What was your degree?

Yes, you'll have to join the back of the queue behind those candidates that got a 2:1 in film studies from the university of West Scunthorpe I'm afraid. After all, they have demonstrated a far better academic record than you, they have a 2:1 which trumps your 2:2.

We've had variations of this topic discussed here over the years. I would say that it's realistic for you to get into consulting (non MBB) with a 2.2 from Cambridge, but you're going to have to work that bit harder to get interviews. The key is not having your CV rejected within 10 seconds because of the 2.2That's a challenge, because most of these firms will have 100+ good graduate CVs for each position they are looking to fill, so things that help them whittle the list down to a more manageable shortlist (like poor academic grades or the wrong university) are pounced on as a reason to reject you.I would suggest that what you need is someone inside each of the companies who will fight your corner and say you're worth interviewing. So:Through LinkedIn research and discussions with the Cambridge careers service, find people who went to your college or who studied the same degree as you who are now working in your target firms. Then try to speak with them, explain your circumstances and win them over that you're worthy of an interview. If a consultant within the business passes on your CV to the recruiting team, your odds of the 2.2 being overlooked are significantly increased.Better still, see if you can find out from the careers service people who've got a 2.2 in the last few years and who've successfully made it into an entry-level consulting role. This does 2 things. Firstly shows you those firms where there's a track record of this being possible; and secondly, gives you a kindred spirit within the consultancy who may warm to the idea of helping you."Hey Hugo. Hope you don't mind me getting in touch. I'm doing my masters, having fallen just short of the 2.1 I was aiming to get from Cambridge. The careers service said your firm have occasionally extended offers to people like me and I'm hoping to find someone there who could help me have my application taken seriously""Funny you should have contacted me V-M, that's exactly the situation I faced a few years ago...."I personally would want to do all this by phone. Email or LinkedIn InMail is the lazy route - and much easier for the recipient to just hit delete. Plus you'll have a better gauge on the progress you're making.Hope this helps in any case - and good luckTony RestellFounder, http://www.Top-Consultant.com and http://www.Social-Hire.com

I actually googled this to verify the existence of such a university.

Why are you so desperately fixated on a career in consulting? Desperate may be strong, but you don't seem to care whom you work for, as long as it's in consulting ("who are the ones that would accept me?").You've graduated from one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world. Outside of consulting, you'll be a Cambridge graduate. In consulting (where an Oxbridge background is pretty standard, and the snobbery around grades is unparalleled), you're just a 2:2 candidate. Do yourself some justice. If the business world is your thing, join a management trainee grad program in a company/industry you think you'd like to work for. If you were ever going to be good enough for management consulting, you should be able to excel in a company (assuming you invest the same effort as you would have in consulting). Demonstrate success and after 4-5 years you'll be Cambridge grad with a track record of success in business, and will have a much better chance of getting into consulting. However, I'm pretty sure you won't want to, and you'll possibly be glad you never did in the first place

I was a lot more confused when I asked this question. Now I did much more research and really knew the consultancy firms that I would go for. Thanks!

I may be generalising but you might find that the smaller firms who do their initial screening with onshore, experienced recruiters might have more flexibility on this. Some of the biggers ones will have strict policies and offshore screening that will see the 2:2 and ignore the university.

My thoughts exactly. It would do my head in working for the type of company that is so badly run that they let the HR department get away with such a simplistic yet fundamentally flawed approach to recruitment.

Alternative perspective: most firms only take 2.1s AND only from decent universities. Unthinkable as it may be for an Oxford/ or Cambridge grad, many of these candidates will actually be of a higher standard than their 2.2 chap.

On a second look, the original post is either a troll or a student at UEA anyway.
