Hi everyone , I just wanted some advice regarding this situation really and the advice/views of anyone that has gone through the same experience can offer any insight. Basically Iv'e never worked in recruitment/sales type roles before (other than working in a call centre when I was 18 for like 6 months) I have a degree in Housing and have worked in Housing for 5 years. I rang a recruitment company in London (not name dropping them) regarding a job they had advertised on their website. Anyway I got talking to the recruitment consultant who was the recruiter for the role and it materialized that they are looking for recruitment consultants recruiting into Housing roles with Housing Associations/ local councils etc. The chief executive of the company rang me shortly after this conversation asking me to come for a meeting to discuss a possible role. I currently live in Yorkshire , but am desperately trying to find work in London . I know the cost of living in London is way higher than up North and Iv'e worked out that I would need to earn at least £25,000 PA to make ends meet. The company offer a basic salary of between 18 -35k with uncapped commission. Taking into account that I have no sales experience other than a small stint in a call centre , what would I realistically expect to earn in my first year if I was average in terms of the number of clients I get etc. and also does having worked in an industry give you an advantage when recruiting in to it ? I figure it does as you know what skills recruiters are looking for. Iv'e sat on interview panels before going through C Vs etc so I have (transferable skills as it was) Any help you can give is appreciated :)

£18-35K is such a broad bracket! You'll no doubt be at the lower end of this and that's the problem with jobs like this - you're pay will come from your commission (at least until you prove you're brilliance!) I don't think you're lack of sales experience will hinder you. If you know the sector well (and your education/experience suggests you do) then you should have nothing to worry about.Of course working in housing will help - you'll be able to almost immediately identify people who will be good for each specific role and be able to offer a real insight to the candidate(s) - which is important, remember that you're commission is based on him/her signing on the bottom line!). On top of this you know how local authorities work bla bla...

That's my ultimate pet hate as well! Oh the irony...
