It goes in reverse. 4 and above are partners. 5 is not used yet, 6 is senior manager, 7 is manager and so on...But I would not worry, by the time you join in a few weeks, it's probably all going to change again....

the recruiter offer verbally "consultant with 2 years exprience". I thought it is what everyone refer to as c2 until I see level 9.Does not that mean I have to go from level 9 to 8 and then 7? I was under the impression that I am one level away from the manager.

You, indeed, are one level away from Manager. Dont think too much about this. Enjoy your time till joining. In consulting workforce its 6-Senior Manager,7-Manager,9-Consultant and 11-Analyst. No levels of 8 and 10 in Consulting. As Arby pointed out rightly, everything might change by the time you join. So chill out

Hi, I recently applied for a position with Accenture and would like to know what level 9 is and also what is the typical salary for this level as I was asked expectations as well. it would be good to know what the typical offer is so I do not sell myself short. Please let me know. thanks a lot. Are there different levels of consultant? Or is everyone on level 9 similar? Thanks, Sandy

Consultant levels C1,C2,C3. C1 is level 9, then I assume C2/C3 or both are classed as 8. and then 7 is Manager level (M1).C1s are on about 42k, C2s 45k, c3s 48k. (approx as it all performance related and what area of consulting you are in).M1s start on about 65k (approx again). however Managers get a car allowance and start receiving bonuses.

Not quite right youngmaverick - the career level is the same no matter where you are in a particular band - you have to get promoted to move career band.

Assuming you're coming in under the consulting workforce, it will be consultant level. 11 is analyst. There are no levels for consultant, mgr etc. however you will have "years at level" which will be the number of years you have spent being in that level - that marks your seniority. however in terms of title, there will be no change.

Hi All, Presently speaking to Accenture in similar circumstances. Got a call yesterday to say I performed really well at the interview but i wouldn't be brought in at Manager level and as a result my salary expectations wouldn't match consultant grade. I told her i would be happy to consider consultant level and hence a reduction in salary expectations. However HR person says she'll need to go back to MD who interviewed me to confirm if there is any demand for consultant level resource in the area applied to before they can even begin to talk about offers. She also told me consultant level salary is btw £40k & £45k. Personally i feel like the whole "i'll need to speak to the MD to see if there's a need for a consultant level resource..." is just antics to get me in cheaper than what i might be anticipating. I could however be wrong though hence me seeking advice here. If she comes back and says "yes...the MD is happy for you to come in at consultant level..." is £40-£45k a reasonable range for a C3 (which is the least level i think i should be pushing for with 6 years industry experience)? i was thinking more of the £50k mark atleast and or a sign on bonus where possible. The £40k - £45k range in all honesty is a a good increase on what i presently earn in industry but that is only because i have been "cheated" for years where i presently work and with the way the company is presently structured getting what i deserve is almost impossible without leaving the company completely. Hence me considering other options and how i came about Accenture. But at the same time there's the dilemma/interest conflict of "Yes its a salary increase going to Accenture" against "Do not sell yourself cheaper than what you're really worth irrespective"HELP!

I got offered £55k at C3 back in July-ish.But then it all depends on:- How much they like you- How much they need you- How much others want youAnd, of course, the area that you are applying to.

Thanks @Smithy. 50k-ish range sounds more accurate from what i have seen and heard around. An official offer hasn't been made so can't jump into much conclusion right now. I guess i'll just have to wait for HR to come back to me first.

Are you sure they are talking about C3? The salary mentioned is around the C1 or low C2 range. The C is Consultant and the number denotes the time at level. A C3 would be in the high 40's at the very bottom of the scale. Aside from a few quid if it were me I'd rather come in at C2. You're still eligible for promotion and won't be panicking about being kicked out if you don't get it in one year (it usually takes a couple to build network etc).

@agentsmith: To be honest they haven't made any formal offers either by salary or grade. According to HR they will have to look at business needs for a consultant level resource in that business area (CMT to be precise). But i clearly remember she saying even if there was a need salary range will be between 40k - 45k which if going by the comments on here is between C1 & C2. My kind of skill set (Telecoms solution architect) must definitely be in very low demand at Accenture :)

UPDATE: I have been made an offer of £43k at consultant level 9 (whatever that is) with ACN. Personally i think this is low. And if AgenthSmith's comments are correct then i'm being looked at as a C1 consultant which i think is somewhat off the mark after 6 years industry experience. I need all the advice i can get. How do i go about negotiating? etc

It means that is the level that they have assessed you are currently at based on how you performed in the interview process. It is very common for experienced hires to be taken in at lower levels as they are not generally used to the consulting industry or how Accenture works. You need to prove yourself. If you take the job, you should work like an absolute ninja to get accelerated promotion - in under 2 years you could be at Manager level on £65k+, +car allowance, +bonus - but you have to work for that and not just complain that you think you should be on more just because you have six years work experience. You need to learn how to make the system work for you and it can be very lucrative!

Agree with Diane. I don't think there's too much manoeuvre for negotiation. It's decision time; either wait for a better offer from somewhere else or start practicing your Shuriken skills.
