I figure you're very ancient from your post :)It is no longer the case that most shops don't take Amex and that there is large service cost attached to it.Amex is now thoroughly ubiquitous!

i can remember using my first ever corporate amex card. they sent me to NYC. I figured I was sorted - obviously, in the USA, they would accept Amex everywhere. after all, it's American express! So i didn't even bother taking any dollars. much to my surprise, an amex card in NYC was about as much use as having a fistfull of zimbabwe dollars. could i find anyone that could take it? no

Reminds me of Wethers Originals ads... I remember the first time I tried using Amex. Everyone told me to do one and I felt very special. Now whenever I get told it's not accepted I feel special again.

Thanks consultant123.Do you know which of the Barclaycard visa cards are issued? One of them offers travel insurance. I'm about to renew my insurance, so wont bother to do so if the card offers it for free.

It will be a corporate one. there won't be any perks for employees, except perhaps 1 air mile for every £100,000,000 you spend on flights.

No - it's called forward planning.Being proactive on a number of issues. If they were factors, I would have raised them with the partner :)My last question stems merely from curiosity though - iphone 5 on corporate plans this early sounds off.

iPhone 5, or 4 (not sure why you'd want that), Note 2, or Galaxy S3 on a 36 month contract. Ready to pick up on your first day.

You'll be sent a list of phones and providing you complete the form 2 weeks before you join, it's meant to be there on your first day. And yes, an iPhone 5 (16gb in black or white) is on there. You can also choose a laptop (12 or 15 inch screen) and bag (rucksack or satchel). And if all that wasn't exciting enough, you can use your personal phone/phone number instead. Rock and roll.

Hmm strange. The form that came with my contract documentation included everything you mentioned (laptop, bag) but didn't have anything regarding a phone.I'll get in touch with them.

EY provides Amex.I don't think EY provides phones by default - the ex works at EY and she didn't get a phone. Or maybe they only give more senior people phones.

Do you mean at EY? If so, I wouldn't know at what level they think you're capable of handling a phone. What I know is when she joined as grad, she didn't get a phone. I think PWC also do this.

A portable telephone is a status symbol and should be given only to the very most senior of senior management.

Better if you took a moment, allowed your indignation to build, hold your breath until your face turns red and build up a good mouthful of spit and phlegm, so that you can explode with the word 'pleb' for max effect.
