I am seriously considering a move from Big 4 Advisory to contracting. "How creative" I hear you all say - but I would be very interested to hear some experiences from someone who've done a similar move. It's obviously a catch 22 situation; I do not want to resign before I have landed a contract, but it is not easy to land a contract while still being an employee. There's also a risk of my Employer finding out as people do talk...Anyone who would like to share their experiences / opinions ?

I know the feeling. A colleague of mine recently left just 9 months after promotion from grad programme to senior associate. She had received an offer to go contracting at £600pd. Considering her salary was probably less than £40k and with less than 3 years career experience I found it incredible that she was able to more than triple her salary. But that is the attraction I guess.
