I am considering a move out of Consulting to a large Oil company. I would like to know if it is feasible to negotiate a sign on bonus as part of the overall package at the new company. If anyone has any insights in to the likelihood of my succeeding in negotiating this please reply. Alternatively can you suggest a better way to improve the package?

I am in the same boat, although I have already accepted an offer. I was given a signing bonus - about 15% of baseIf you are not relocating you could try and angle for some form of sign-on instead - after all, if you were moving from London to Nigeria they would pay for the whole move, plus temp accomodation etc etc

I managed to secure a signing bonus last June for a move from consulting to an oil company. I'm not sure how successful you'll be today, given the state of the job market, but try!I asked for the signing bonus when I'd maxed out the salary negotiation, stating that if they couldn't stretch the final £Xk, then I'd compomise and accept a £YK signing bonus!

Thanks for both your responses. Oily care to share a % of base figure, assuming you prefer not to talk amounts? I am thinking that as I am being recruited without going through an agency they will be saving a considerable sum, so a sign on bonus will look cheap by comparison...
