Now that the forum is operating under new rules, perhaps we can have a mature discussion on why in the last few years, IT Consulting has attracted - within consulting circles, as a career option - such derision. Certainly the sector struggled under the irrational exuberance of the dot com bubble. And there has also inevitably been a great deal of commoditisation and margin pressure. However, technology is absolutely integral to the modern economy and underpins all the latest developments in social media, healthcare, financial services etc..So why is it continually lampooned (and specifically in the UK?)? Are we not playing into our national competitors’ hands by driving the young, thrusting, ambitious graduates and students of the future away from the sector? Is it really a good idea to enter the new decade with a shortage of talented technologists? I'm sure ZB will reply with a tiresome tirade constructed mainly from a list of ITIL and Prince 2 disciplines (which Tony may or may not delete), but the key question remains, so can we answer it?

Anthony - I am very much in favour of returning this forum to a place for sensible discussion and advice.Do you not realise that making statements like "I'm sure ZB will reply with some tiresome tirade" is part of the problem? It is totally unnecessary to use such inflammatory statements. If anyone says anything inappropriate it will be moderated.
