How much annual leave do you get in the big consultancies? ACN and IBM start at 25 days and go up to 30 for long service. Is this normal?

Consulting in ACN starts at 30. Deloitte 25 but you can buy 5 more.

"PA Consulting - 23, but you can take a half day on Christmas eve if you are in the office"Wow! That's generous. Do you get bank holidays off too?

20 in some of the US-based firms (Diamond, etc.)25 in most of the European/UK firms (Cap, etc.)30 is unusual and the assumption is that you don't take them all - career killer if you do. It does give you a bit extra pay-in-lieu when you quit though.

not all will pay in lieu - Cap for instance has a use it or lose it policy with no carry over and no pay off, also in the last quarter people who are unassigned and have holiday left get instructed to take their holidays to improve the billable days calculations. I guess that's commonplace in this industry though.

Everywhere gives effective pay-in-lieu of earned and untaken vacation when you quit - that's the law. Either you work your notice, and get true pay-in-lieu for the full amount of earned vacation, or you have to take your earned vacation at the end of your holiday (in which case you continue getting paid after your last day in the office for the full period of earned vacation). You can, of course, have a combination of both.

Where are you? France? That's not the case in the UK - I have rarely taken my full vacation allowance, and the company I work for has a use it or lose it policy.

if you quit in the UK it's true that you get paid off whatever earned vacation you haven't used, buit that's not the same as rights around carry over across years, where it's just down to firm policy not the law. in general UK employees get a bum deal compared to many European countries (though better than US) in these matters

Am I the only one who RTFs the posts? "effective pay-in-lieu of earned and untaken vacation when you <b>quit</b>"@Apple and @Abhijit: Do you get resign or get fired from your job at the end of every year? With your demonstrated levels of literacy, I wouldn&apos;t be surprised if it was the latter. That said, whether you leave voluntarily or involuntarily in the UK (and implicitly, the entire thread is about the UK given that the URL includes /UK/ and given the company entitlements mentioned) you will entitled to take or have paid out any earned leave, subject to the leave-earning policies of your employer and the law.

ACN UK, 30 days in consulting, you can roll over 5 and have 5 paid out.Taking all 6 weeks is not a career killer, utter nonsense - make sure you plan holidays/book well in advance because before you know it, it is August 1st and you have 6 weeks vacation left (has happened to me a couple of times).
