I seem to be at a juncture.Having been at a big 4+acn for the last 4 years, I've made steady progress and am now a senior consultant. However, lately I've been thinking long-term, (objectives et al that). and what people generally do after Strategy/Management consulting?I can't see myself doing Consulting for too much longer (a year or two) and wanted to know what path people took as they matured in this industry. All experienced thoughts welcome. Thanks

I had a couple of years internal consulting in the public sector and am now MD of a SME.

After 2 years into consulting moved into an internal strategy and finance role and am now head of strategy for the division I work in.

I have a slightly different take on this, having moved TO consulting after 6-and-odd years in industry (internal consulting for a top US FMCG). I found the hours more demanding but was strangely attracted by the project-based nature of the work and the largely self-driven consulting lifestyle. One of my peers with a similar background (industry -> consulting but with 5 years more cons experience) took up a senior (associate director) position in a niche SCM practice last year.I suppose it depends what you specialise in and whether you have the right client contacts if you wish to exit consultancy entirely. Personally I'd take the bigger fish, smaller pond option rather than go back to industry.
